"Thank You For Smoking" the TV Series!

It looks like the desperate for ratings NBC Network is trying to carve out a niche with intelligent programming.

Now, the network is adapting the EXCELLENT indie film into a half hour comedy. I’m hoping for two things:

(1) It is a single camera dramedy that is put on Thursdays with Scrubs, Earl and the Office (offering perhaps the best Thursday since Cosby, Family Ties and Night Court.)
and
(2) Aaron Eckhart reprises his role. He’s not such a big star that he couldn’t use a regular paycheck. He was so good that it was a shame the show debuted in the Fall. He deserves Oscar consideration.

The show would be a half-hour comedy about spin doctor Nick Naylor – played by Aaron Eckhart in the film version – as he sets up his own PR firm. As in the film, the show would focus on both his work for various malfeasants with his efforts to be a good father.

“The idea is that there’s a never-ending array of clients he could have,” David O. Sacks, who produced the movie and will be an exec producer of the pilot, tells Variety. “But it has to be something where Nick is on the wrong or unpopular side of things.”
