Is this a well-known catchphrase? Who coined it?
I always thought it was from vaudeville, and was literally true. Don’t have a cite tho.
Actually, I associated it more with Las Vegas. Veal was not normally served in vaudeville, which tended more toward a light pasta dish and white wine.
If not Vegas, than maybe the Borsch Belt (Catskills) where you could get dinner and a comic.
I never considered it a catch phrase, more of a cliche. It’s something comics would say to encourage patrons to return on another night.
