Several hundred. So many that I’ve got to redo my computer, I corrupted some files in the white-heat frenzy of it, I guess.

Not counting Instant Messages, although I got enough of them too. This is how I learned my computer can take no more than 10 open IM windows at one time.

Y’all exhibited great patience and a good deal of restraint over the past week, with the exception of a few threats from the truly desperate. (The threats were mostly followed by deep groveling, so it balances out.)

I’ll pass this thread on to the techs, so any good wishes you’d like to pass on, feel free. If you wanna send 'em booze or chocolates, send them to me, I’ll test it for them first. :slight_smile:

I would also like to thank Melin for helping to get the word out. I know she took some very undeserved flak for this on another forum (Misc.facts.straight-dope newsgroup), but, when you think about it:

  1. It would never occur to some of us to e-mail/IM Tuba or other SD Staff in the midst of a crisis like this. I assume they have better things to do than answer ?s from 4000+ members.
  2. In this mailgroup, another member (Tomndebb) stated he had e-mailed Tuba & got back a message simply stating that it was a very bad day.
  3. There was no helpful information posted anywhere on the site until quite late Wednesday night. I realize this was most likely due to the global nature of the technical problems, and not an attempt to keep us in the dark.

I have no idea how many people heard the straight dope about TSD from such unofficial/second-hand sources as Melin, but it would seem that they did the SDMB staff a big favor by cutting down on the interruptions and getting the word out.

Really, thank you all for the work you do for us, the moderaters, tech people, everyone. When you stop to consider how much is provided to us for the cost of absolutly nothing, it really is amazing.

When the message board first disappeared I asked my oldest son to check from his computer, because maybe mine was just being mean. He verified that the site was blocked and then told me he’d seen many that never opened again. I was really dumbstruck, I’m SO glad that isn’t the case here, and the Tech Angels worked so hard to bring you back from the cyberdead. I hope whoever did the hacking gets the ‘Casino’ punishment, where’s Robert DeNiro???
