I just came home to find 2 SD books on my computer table - a gift for my 28th (11/20) from my housemate and friend Jay, unknown here by the handle AndyPolley, who has posted all of 2 times I think.
The timing was perfect, since I’d been meaning to buy the books lately anyway. (“lately” meaning over the last 3 years or so).
OK, honestly, many’s the time I sat here and said to myself, “Moe, one day you’ll be rich, and when you are you’ll buy cases of every book and piece of merchandise sold at the SD out of appreciation for what I’ve already helped myself to for free”.
(Usually after that I say something like “Moe, btw, if you’re going to begin a sentence talking to yourself in the third person, you should probably try to maintain that POV throughtout”).
Sometimes the guilt goes away quickly, other times it takes 3-4 cans of Natural Ice (need I say more about why buying the books are a bit down on my list of priorities?). It’s the same scenario with NPR, but that’s a thread for another time.
I no longer have to feel like a complete freeloader when I come here (only a partial one); I now own some books.
So, I wanted to post here to thank you Andy, for that and for just being so thoughtful, (and also to perhaps get you to post here more often )
Should I mention to him that if he’s sick of hearing me talk about this place this gift will undoubtedly yield undesireable results? ::thinks:: Naaah.
Hey…I may have only posted twice (three times, tops) but I am an avid lurker. Also, just think of the lives saved by having dopers from throughout the world talking me out of smashing that TV set with a baseball bat. Anyway, I’ll try to participate a little more. It’s tough when every computer I touch seems to simply fall apart at the screws.
BTW…I borrowed your computer last night to check some football scores. I hope it’s still running properly.
Enjoy the books, buddy. It’ll give you something to do when your computer decides to shuffle off this mortal coil.
Moe honey, why didn’t you tell me your birthday was coming up? The other day when you asked me about whose birthday was around this time, were you just being subtle and trying to get me to guess you? I feel so shamed, but you never told me your birthday, silly man!
lol, thank you dear. But no I wasn’t trying to bait you. I was actually genuinely thinking of someone we know in particular. And I finally found out who it was, but I forgot who again. damn!
dantheman & Casey1505…you are both on the money. I’m a lonley Tony K fan here in New York, where you can only hear him on the internet. When you see a post of mine, go ahead & hear “Andy Polley!” the way I do. I brings me joy to know I’m not the only fan of his.
I’m also looking forward to the show on CBS called “Shut Up & Listen” (Starring Jason Alexander as Tony) which is based on his ‘style’ section writing for the Washington Post.
We do get ESPN Radio in NY, but Tony’s show is bumped for Yankee shill, Michael Kay. He talks New York sports with his unique, pinstriped colored glasses, view of the sports landscape.
I’m pretty sure it was Jenna, the redheaded HS teacher who does a mean “Bust a Move” (with me on guitar).
And nope, not Jay. I’m a man of many housemates and the one you speak of is Dan (known here as Freewill I believe).
Thank you all for joining us for another exciting episode of The Man Behind the Moe; An IRL look at one of the Dope’s most [adjective][adjective][adjective] Posters
Stay tuned for the new spinoff everyone and their mom is talking about: The AndyPolley Show!!!
OK, now I’m really confused. Who the heck could it have been?? I think it was that she was telling me last night about another person’s B-day from the same group. Damn Yuengling (mmmmmm Yuengling).
But this is really bugging me. WTF. It was a 11/15 B-day, that I’m pretty sure of.
I may not be Dan…But I can sing a mean “Sweet Transvestite” as well. My specialty, however, is dipping into my extensive catalogue of James Kochalka Superstar songs. Moe does a nice accompaniment for “Even the Clouds get high.”
I have to agree with dantheman. At my Halloween party, Paris (dressed as Kobe’s accuser) told me that Moe looked yummy in his “Perseus” costume, and he shoud consider togas as a more regular style of dress.
