Thank you, your Holiness. Awesome speech.

It is nice to see the President has become as articulate as a frat boy. At least, he did not add that the Pope’s outfit was “bitchin’.”

I can’t get videos at work. So what 's the scoop?

In the video, Bush says what’s quoted in the thread title as he thanks Darth Benedict for his speech. It seemed like a casual “so, yeah, that’s that” sort of comment. I’m not terribly riled up, since I’m so used to the word “awesome.”

I was momentarily overwhelmed by a feeling of irony yesterday when I heard, on the radio, a reference to Bush and Ratzinger sharing important values such as their hatred of tyranny.

Maybe he meant ‘awesome’ in the religious sense. However, it is more likely that he is a moron, Occam’s Razor and all.

For those who can’t see the video, it goes like this:

Pope: blah blah, finishing speech
*
Pope moves to sit down
Bush intercepts and shakes his hand*

Bush: Thank you, your holiness, awesome speech.

At least he didn’t say “dude”.

Two and a Half, do you just dig through the news every single day, actively looking for something that you could possible work up enough anger about to post in the Pit? It’s second nature now for me to go into your Pit threads, and expect you to be all fired up about… nothing.

I loathe GWB as much as the next person, but c’mon, this? Here? In the Pit? Can’t work up the anger.

Or give him a shoulder rub.

Seriously, though, this is pretty insignificant. Bush is far from being an articulate president, but this is hardly an example of that.

I imagine Bushie as he greets the Popie: “Dude, where’s your Bible? Huh huh! CAN’T GET FOOLED AGAIN!”
Yak cock!

“Way to go, pope dude” seems like the appropriate Spicoli-ism.

Thanks for the play by play. Dude. Totally.

What do you mean “has become?”

Cite?

The president is a frat boy - Delta Kappa Epsilon, Phi Chapter.

(now defunct, I believe)

At least he didn’t say, “Popie, you’re doing a heck of a job.”

No prob, bro.

Awesome means inspiring awe, extraordinary. It is not solely the property of frat boy/surfer types, although they have really co-opted it over time. From watching that video, it sounds like Bush’s delivery of his thanks lacked quite a bit of oomph, but there is really nothing wrong with the word ‘awesome’ being used in its original sense, and there is no reason to say that it’s akin to using ‘bitchin’ or ‘dude’ or whatever.

Also, I gotta agree with atomicbadgerrace - you really need to lay off the outrage. Aren’t you familiar with The Boy Who Cried Wolf? Now, even if you do find something crazy in the news or come up with another of your extremely harebrained ideas, nobody cares anymore.

Maybe he mean “awesome” in the original sense of the word?

OK, it’s not likely, granted.

High V! I in |X|!

As opposed to his usual level of performance, when he is as articulate as a twelve-year-old.
