Thanks a lot, TIME Magazine!

Thanks for remembering all those others who stood with America and still stand with America. You know: the British, the Australians … I’m sure all our troops in southern Iraq are really chuffed right now.

I love that picture. Just made me say “Wow!”

Carry on.

They knew they’d be offending America’s allies. They still went ahead with it. That suggests they don’t care.

Wait a second…

I don’t see where that picture was taken. Was it in a studio, or in Iraq? While not mentioning where the photo is taken, I think they’re trying to show an American soldier in Iraq.

So… Who wrote the (English written) poem on the wall?

Seems a bit… well… manufactured.

Today’s deaths in Iraq:

"Six coalition soldiers have been killed and many others injured after several blasts in the Iraqi city of Karbala, military officials say.
Major General Andrzej Tyszkiewicz, who commands the Polish-led force in the area, said the attacks were co-ordinated and meant to do much harm. "

Rumsfeld:

"Ours are serving in 146 countries . . . " - well damn, Go that empire !

Really all this suggests is that this is an American magazine that recognizes American soldiers. Do British magazines not primarily display British soliders as headliners in their magazines? Oh the horror if they did! Really, I don’t think the the U.S. would care if they did, nor should coalition countrys. Plus, TIME headlines all kinds of stuff from other nations quite often, I fail to see the problem here.

There was a period when I was younger, say 20+ years ago, when I thought that Time Magazine could do no wrong. It truly seemed to be one of the world’s great sources of quality journalism. Sadly, of late, it seems to have gone the way of Rolling Stone magazine - that is, doing cheesey stories and making cheesey “Top 10” lists which are designed to maximise unit sales and little else.

A real shame for mine.

At least National Geographic remains pure (for now)…

Exactly. It doesn’t care about the efforts of the rest of the coalition.

No.

You’re saying that if a British magazine was doing an article about British soldiers it wouldn’t display a photograph of said soldiers?

And this is a fact?

Really. Never?

But this is supposed to be the “Man of the Year” wrt the entire planet, not just the USA. Given that the US soldiers were recognized as a group, it would seem a very small thing to do to include the soldiers of the other nations as well. Stupid not to, actually.

I’m sure that they really care about an independent magazine cares. Time Magaine doesn’t = US goverment or the American people. It’s just a magazine. Who cares what they think. I for one, am grateful for the help and sacrifices these other countries are putting forth to support this cause.

It’s an article “about soldiers” ? You sure it’s not an article by Time magazine about Time magazine’s decision to make the “American Soldier” its up-yer-arse, media conglomerate, self-serving advertising device aka “Person of the Year” ?

Naming American Soldiers as ‘Man of the year’ Is offencive to the rest of the coalition regardless of the politics of magazines. Deal with it.

Oh well, America did something to offend everyone. We’ll put it on the list and promptly not give a fuck.

It’s just so fucking provincial.
And, also, it leads to the continuing absurdity of statements like these:

“Gee, we don’t get much overseas news here, you know America is soooo big . . . Godness, this message board is so left leaning, now people from other countires are posting’ . . .etc. etc . . .

First of all it’s ‘Person of the year’ and all this really equates to is a ‘McDonalds employee of the year’. When Jethro becomes employee of the year, a lot of things have happened. Sure, Juan helped out as best he could with making the fries in a timely manner, but Jethro made the difference by making customer service #1.

The U.S. Soldiers gave the best service. Deal with it.

I am an internationalist to the core, but complaining about an American magazine recognizing American soldiers is idiotic. Get the fuck over yourselves, the rest of the world.

If you didn’t give a fuck you wouldn’t have bothered posting.

This is the pit people, where people complain. Someone complains about a precious American magazine and suddenly some nerves are touched. Don’t give a shit about our opinion? Prove it by shutting up.

No nerves were touched. I’m just letting you know that as offended as you are, we won’t give a fuck with the same vigor.
