Thanks to those who helped me kill my lawn

A follow on from this thread.

The lawn is coming along nicely - I took some pics today. They don’t do it justice - the yellow and orange flowers don’t show up as nice as they do in real life. But my plan to kill my lawn is coming along nicely. Lots of wildflowers, and we’re seeing a lot of deer, too! Check it out.

Thanks to all the suggestions!

Good grief–that’s pretty! I love the softness of the plants amid the trees, and the path to your door like a river through it. I’d love to wake up and look at that. Very nice! I bet the critters are crazy about it, too.

Athena, what a lovely view. Serene, natural, your efforts were well spent.

Thanks all. And the kicker is, the pics don’t really do it justice. For some reason, the daisies seem to overpower the yellow and orange flowers in the pictures. In reality, it’s a mix of all of them and it’s very pretty.

We’re thinking that we’re going to carve some paths through with a mower. Nothing fancy, just a couple paths so you can easily walk through the yard. As it is now, everything is 3+ feet high, so walking is an adventure!

It looks beautiful! We don’t live near a forest, but in the Italian countryside, and have done a similar thing. We let the garden grow for a couple of years and have discovered the ‘lawn’ is full of beautiful flowers, grape hyacinth, wild orchids, 3 different kinds of clover, dandylions (and a plant very similar but the flowers are yellow, orange and bluey-purple), wild sweet peas, tiny violets, daisies, buttercups, purple thistles that the butterflies love… It is gorgeous, so many plants that I don’t know the names of as well. We have planted some flowers: hydrangea, fuschia, verbena, lantera, sunflowers, cornflowers, thyme, marigolds, dill, tarragon, sage, rosemary, capers, gardenia, aloe, cacti, all jumbled up, no real sense to it, (except the roses and the vegetable patch which have proper beds and plastic and gravel protecting them from weeds etc)and I love it! there are tall wild grasses that grow in the garden which I really like, but we also have this horrible grass, crab grass I think it is called, the tufts of grass stick up, not to far above the ground, but when you go to pull them out, the roots are METRES long and a real bugger to get at. This, and spiky looking dandylion things that are ugly looking are all that get pulled out of the garden.
I have seen a weedkilling gizmo which I might try, it is basically a metal pointy thing attached to a gas canister. You put the point of the stick into the ground where the weed root is, squeeze the trigger and it burns to root of the plant. Sounds pretty nifty to me!

It looks great!
