One of my friends had Thanksgiving dinner at a friend’s and was surprised at her family’s stuffing recipe. It had potatoes in it and was…soupy. He didn’t care for it, and I’m having trouble imagining it.
So I figured I’d put the question to my fellow Dopers: Have you ever eaten (or even heard of) this type of stuffing?
The friend said it was called “moist stuffing.”
I’ve done a little bit of Googling and the closest I’ve found is the stuffing for this veal breast. But it doesn’t sound soupy.
I have never had soupy dressing.
As a child, I enjoyed my Grandmother’s oyster and Saltine dressing.
Mama Plant made it for me once when I was grown, assuming that if a few oysters were tasty, lots of oysters would be more so. I of course had to take it home. I could barely stand to have it in the care. The cats wouldn’t eat it.
My apologies for digressing.
I don’t know if what I have is what you would call soupy, but it is spoonable. It is made in a crock pot these days, but in the past just cooked for a long time. It is moist enough that gravy is not required (although giblet gravy is still cooked and used).
It is difficult for me to eat any dressing that is of a cake consistency. It doesn’t seem right to me.
We have chicken cornbread sage dressing that you eat with a spoon. And we call it ambrosia and angels sing as we chew.
