I’m sitting in my living room, drinking a lot of coffee, getting ready to go finish my Thanksgiving food shopping. I will return in a few hours, many bags in hand, and start making pies. I will then map out my menu exactly, plan on when I’m cooking what, and get my act together for Thursday. This is my 4th Thanksgiving cooking for 12+ people, so I’m not even in a panic this year!
Anyone else doing the big meal but haven’t done your shopping yet? (For the record, I bought cranberry sauce last week )
I just did my food shopping last night. The turkey’s thawing as we speak. I love Thanksgiving! Our menu (for just the three of us!):
turkey
dressing
giblet gravy (with giblets in it!)
cranberry sauce
broccoli-rice casserole
mashed potatoes
fruit salad
hawaiian rolls
pecan pie
chocolate cream pie
My husband always cooks the Thanksgiving feast since he is a much better cook than I anyways. I don’t know exactly what he plans on cooking, except for the turkey. He bought sweet potatoes and stuffing and several different kinds of vegetables, although I noticed he forgot the cranberry sauce. What kind of Thanksgiving will it be without cranberry sauce?
It’s just the 3 of us. thank god my teen ager loves dark meat.
Don’t know who’s going to cook this year (last couple of years it was me 'cause SO didn’t get up until like 6 pm).
menu:
Turkey, Stuffing (with sausage)
gravy (from the pan drippings)
Mashed taters
Corn (probably)
as appetizers raw carrots, olives, broccoli, cauliflower, radishes, mushrooms and vegetable dip,
and, my favorite: nantucket cranberry pie (got this recipe from a friend in 1976, it’s the easiest thing to make, only dirty dishes are a saucepan, measuring cup and fork. takes about 10 minutes to put together… yummmmmmm)
