That "Bar Rescue" (Pirate bar) Episode

Am I the only one who pictured the beginning of The Meaning of Life when they transitioned from corporate drones to pirates?

Well, I wouldn’t suggest a pirate themed bar or anything for that matter if your target market was former or current members of the Coast Guard. I’ve been on recoveries of boats that had been visited by “Pirates of the Caribbean”. It’s not pleasant.

You know it seems like this critique is based solely on this episode. Generally compared to other makeover shows that they do much better job at creating/keeping a character. When you look at something like restaurant impossible where every remake is a predominantly white chique little restaurant with splashing of appropriate color, BR seems pretty good.

I agree with above posters that this episode was probably meant to specifically tweek the current staff and owners.

Anyone have an idea which bars he did this at before? Because a hyper business atmosphere would actually probably work in some areas. Imho. Not everyone goes to a bar to completely relax. Some are there to impress.

I think they are probably struggling a bit, but yes. They get a free renovation, new POS systems, new kitchen equipment, sometimes lighting and sound systems… Who wouldn’t want that? Thousands of dollars worth of free stuff! Plus getting your mug on TV!

One other things that I’ve read people complain about is that some of the “new” equipment they bring in is actually leased. And the show is definitely not clear about that. But, to me, if you can lease something that can help you make money, then that’s a good thing.

Like you can lease POS systems and some other equipment they typically bring in. Maybe not new walk-in freezers or the like. But, I’m not sure.

According to the link in post #4, the self-serve beer taps featured in this episode were leased for two months. They also could not be used due to being illegal in the bar’s county.

Yeah when I saw those I immediately thought no way are those legal in my province. Perzonally I am taking a lot of the stuff from that link with a grain of salt. Little he said-she said and in this case the she likes to pretend to be a pirate.
