Mighty interesting proposition there. What’s your proof? I see many religious edifices, ranging in size from mighty small to rather large. Seems to me they’re sized for the expected number of occupants, aka worshippers.
Got any proof of that? I mean real proof, not just because you personally believe that to be the case.
Silly of me. I’ve never heard the leader of a mosque say that a believer’s prayers were more important because of being uttered in a mosque instead of elsewhere. Seems to me that you’re confusing a couple of things. One is the idea of prayer with the idea of worshippers gathering to hear instruction. The other is your personal beliefs with proof.
I don’t live in that exact area but I’m not more than a couple of hours away. Any Katy/Houston area Dopers available to put up said sign? I’ll volunteer to make up the sign and send it your way.
On second thought, maybe we can pitch in and rent a billboard instead.
So he went through with the pig races…to AVOID being a laughingstock? Yeah. Mission accomplished.
You seem to be confused about the difference between faith and religion. St patricks is 330 feet high. The worshippers only occupy the lowest six feet. What do you think that means?
Ooh, can we combine that with the teeniest tiniest bikini contest?
Every country has its bigots, idiots, assholes and racists. We just dump ours in places like Texas. When we first proposed the plan to dump them in Texas, Texas residents protested and claimed it would cause too much traffic and lower property values. It turns out that putting all the idiots in one place doesn’t isolate the problem it just created a critical mass of these people and they elected a governor who became president.
Don26 is just the latest brain-dead knee-jerk right-wing apologist to invade the board. He’s one of those types who’s so stupid he will find no defenders even among his ideological allies, like magellan01. With any luck he’ll get bored of having his steaming ignorance handed back to him and leave us in peace, though magellan01 is still here so there’s no guarantee. Anyway, best advice is just to disregard his posts, and not encourage him overmuch.
I think it means, “Look, our deity is so powerful he brings us the prosperity to build extravagantly large houses of worship.” It’s not wrong, per se, and some large houses of worship can be quite beautiful, but they’re not really essential to faith either.
I agree with the pitting, but I can’t help wondering what the SDMB reaction would be if the JWs wanted to open a Kingdom Hall there, and the locals objected. Would it be pitted?
I ask because I was once involved in exactly that. I joined my fellow residents in fighting a redevelopment application that the JWs had lodged with the local council to turn an old warehouse into a Kingdom Hall. We cited noise, parking, and other concerns, but I must admit to a little bias on all our parts.
I’m guessing she had to come up with a good excuse rather quickly, and that was her best shot at it. In doing so she just lobbed an insult at the non-mouth breathing Texans.
