There is no law in Michigan (yet) that makes selling your own child against the law. They can’t get him for abhandonment, because he never abandoned her–they arrested him right at the point of sale, so to speak. They can’t get him for abuse or neglect, because while the little girl was in his care, she was not abused or neglected. They can’t get him for simply being a flaming asshole, either, because that’s still legal.
Then there’s the guy in norther Michigan who got popped a while back for swearing in front of some kids. He was canoeing, and IIRC, his canoe tipped over near the riverbank. He came up cussing. There were some families nearby that heard him, and one of the mothers complained to someone else (my memory is failing me on this one). the guy wound up being arrested & charged under some law that’s over 100 years old that says it’s illegal to use profanity in front of women & children, in Michigan. He’s been fined $75, and has to do four days community service in a day care center. He’s appealing. Whatever.
So you can sell your kids here, no problem. Just make sure you don’t swear in front of them, or you’ll get arrested.
Not quite as bad as Kansas or Oklahoma, but pretty fucking stupid, nonetheless.
By the way, I am from Michigan. Please, flame my state. Please.

How could I flame that?! I’m not up on this case but it sounds very sad to me. I wouldn’t sell my dog let alone my child… I wish there was something we, or the “law” could do.
Best!

Voted most sex obsessed. (Yeah, blow me smart ass!)
Opal: I will try to get a link. I ws combing the net pretty heavily last night trying to find a decent story about it, with the intent of putting in a link, and I couldn’t find much of anything.
The guy’s name is either Lawrence or Laurence Schaub, and this whole thing happened in Eastpointe, Michigan. I’ll keep trying.

Snowing again? Just cranked up the AC down here just to check the system out. Should be a great day at the beach tomorrow. Getting ready to crank up the first frozen 'ritas, want one?
'course, I guess you really didn’t want to hear that. Hey, can you make a snowman for me?
Perhaps the Justice Department should step in and prosecute the father for violating the child’s civil rights. Selling a child smacks of slavery, which I understand has been outlawed for quite some time now. There are federal anti-slavery laws on the books; the guy would probably be open to some charges there too.
