That infamous billboard Near Chehalis has been sold!

The Uncle Sam billboard off Interstate 5 in Lewis County, the one that has been spouting right wing claptrap for generations, has a new owner: the Confederated Tribes of the Chehalis Reservation. That damn thing has been up since I was a tyke back in the 60’s, and I saw it every time we visited my grandparents in Ryderwood.

A highlight for those driving I-5 between Seattle and Portland, I found myself feeling both offended and amused whenever I drove past it.

Just in time! I might be driving past it next week, heading to Seattle.

There’s a county road nearby that I like to take when I’m out riding my motorcycle. As you come over the crest of a hill, the whole river valley opens out in front of you and you can see for miles before you hit the bottom of the hill and are surrounded by trees again. It’s a pretty spectacular view… and some asshole put up a billboard with some sort of “behold the majesty of our lord” bible quote right there. Offended and amused is how I always think of it. “I’d like to, but your sign is in the way!”

It’s a shame that the tribe had to pay for the land, given that it was already theirs.

Can we interest the tribe in buying this billboard?

The article was paywalled for me. Did the tribal authorities mention any editorial policy they intended to impose on their new billboards?

It said they primarily wanted the land, and they’re still making up their mind what they want to do with the billboard.

I sincerely hope all their choices involve explosives.

Tribes are known for fireworks.

In a horrible act of stereotyping perhaps they could do a “historical” (AKA Hollywood) reenactment and have a group of painted men on horseback ride in circles around the billboard while whooping and hollering and shooting flaming arrows at it until it catches fire.

A billboard with something like this comes to mind.

For medical reasons we had to cancel this trip. Maybe we’ll be able to do the drive later this year. Hopefully.
