That is a virtually great skillet

I went out and used a gift certificate the other day, and picked myself up a new Presto 11" Electric Skillet. It is a fantastic appliance and I don’t know how I’ve cooked without.

Anyways, I just pulled the box out of the recycle bin and was reading the box when I noticed that one of the claims for this product is as follows:

Heavy cast aluminum base is virtually warp-proof

What does this mean?

The base won’t ever warp…

maybe.

Virtual is such a tricky word. Doesn’t it sound so high techy?

I like my new virtually warp-proof toy.

It bears noting that the cover is made of a hard plastic substance called EverNu

If you crank it up high enough, and don’t give the heat a way to dissipate, it will warp. Under normal use it shouldn’t assuming it’s a good pan.

Aluminum is notorious for warping especially in larger pans or surfaces (like griddle tops).

In fact, one of my engineering teachers used to tell the story of the first aluminum engine blocks in cars. they worked fine until you did something that overheated the engine. Once that happened, you could basically throw it away.
