The amusing part is that I think this use of ‘sick’ is now old. Replaced by ‘fire’ in most contexts. At least I haven’t heard anyone use ‘that’s sick’ in a good 5 years or so.
I have used “monster” to mean awesome. Sadly, both “fire” and “monster” as salutary adjectives becomes problematic as it works out to free brand advertising, for th8ngs that I, personally, would not care to tout.
Oh, I agree totally - sick is definitely passé
I’ve only ever encountered “fire” - pronounced fiah - in shoetuber videos; fire is what every sneakerhead is tryna cop. Unless you’re going after a grail - OG Bred Ones, or Shattered Backboards, or Ferrari 13s. But you gotta be prepared to take a lot of L’s.
I don’t use sneakerhead slang, for the sort of culture-appropriation reasons @BeagleJesus talked about. But I do find it expressive and poetic, and like hearing it.
