That's How I Roll

I think it’s a small joke on being rotund and therefore rolling… A very small joke.

Gag me with a spoon. Totally.

If you see me coming your way, better give me plenty space.
If I tell you that I’m hungry, then won’t you feed my face?

I’m obviously of limited experience with American slang (well, my wife keeps me up to date a bit), but the “Right?” thing is something I experienced a LOT when I visited Philly last year. For a day and a half. It was all over. Is this a local thing?

KIRK: That’s peanuts to an outfit like the Federation. Right?
SPOCK: Unquestionably.
KIRK: Riiiiight?
SPOCK: Right.

KIRK: Who’s interfering? We’re taking over. Check?
SPOCK: Right.

YOU know WHA–AT. Emphasis on the words “you” and an elongated “what”. It may just be a border thing, but I’ve heard that for years along the border. So much I preface a lot of statements with it. Like “You know wha’at–I think I’ll have another drink”. Or “You know wha’at–I have to get gas in the car”. Is that used a lot in other places?

I know someone who says that phrase, but I don’t want to throw him under the bus.

Seriously though, don’t even go there. Phrase FAIL! It sickens me so much to hear that phrase, it makes me throw up in my mouth a little. It needs to put out to pasture.

NOT!

(My bad. Don’t think I’m douchey.)

All kidding aside, this message board is free, memberships cost only a few bucks a year, but never hearing that phrase again … PRICELESS!

I am telling you.

(that used to be the phrase that ended quite a few sentences a few years ago. I consider “right?” a step up… It probably is regional, since I don’t hear “right?” much around Chicago. Then again, I don’t get out much).
BTW: Philly is kind of its own little universe. Don’t judge all of America based on Philly (or any other one place, really).

That’s the first I heard it. I don’t get out much, obviously.

In rural Wisconsin, it’s possible to say something like “Let’s go over by dem dere” without raising an eyebrow.

Walt

If you come by my area, holla at me!

It’s the bee’s knees!

Try doing a barrel roll!

That’s easy. To barrel roll press Z or R twice.

That “right” thing is pretty recent around here and mostly the province of teenagers. Its become a way of agreeing with someone, usually used like this:

“Man, that movie was awesome!”
“I know, right?”

I used to go to a nightclub called The Bees Knees. One of my most memorable nights ever was spent doing a Madness conga to “One Step Beyond”, one of the only dances I was ever good at! Those were the days. ::sigh!::

It closed down in the early 80’s and became a Methodist church!?!
