Listen, I have a good friend in Buffalo and I’m a Bills fan, but I think it’s from 23rd Street in the city. I’ve actually seen sources that say it, and I don’t think many phrases owe their origin to Buffalo.
Hella has officially died over here. Sweet used to be huge, every second word it seemed, and I hated it when it started, but I now use it regularily. I don’t know. I think I like it more than cool. Its just a better word. I think its going to be around for a long time.
A lot of people say dude every now and then and so do I, but I hate it! I don’t even know where I picked it up, or when. As for “He was like, and then I was like” I ALWAYS to that. Or the alternative “She was like all blah blah blah” I however have never heard anyone say “He goes and then I go”
I despise that shiznit thing. Its going soon. Too many lame white kids use it for it to be cool much longer.
I don’t know anyone who says word exept as a joke.
What ever happend to all that great early ninties crap? Like in the movie Clueless. You know, calling chicks Bettys and guys Baldwins and saying postal a lot. They had TONS of slang then. I think it all died within two years. Although I do hear postal every now and then.
The problem is its origin, which is not lost to recent memory. The idea behind “sucks” is that the worst possible thing you could accuse a man of being is homosexual, and that any woman who would perform oral sex was a slut. Nice thoughts, huh?
I have to interject that I have never, ever head “hella” used by anyone in any context, except on this message board.
Sadly, I don’t think the “like” thing will ever die. It’s just too ingrained now for some people.
I say “awesome!” all the time. I mean it somewhat as a joke, but I’ve picked up as standard vocabulary now.
Zing! is a good one too.
