the 0.87 second enigma

Anyone watch Who Wants to be a Millionaire Wednesday where the little wizz kid, in the “fast-finger question” segment, punched up four buttons (with correct answer, no less) in 0.87 second? I honestly find this hard to believe given, among other things, the stress and the stakes involved, not to mention the amount of time it would take for you and I, average Joes that we are, to accomplish such an exercise in a far more “natural” and relaxed setting. Granted, the question wasn’t that difficult, but still… the doubt lingers.

What’s your take on this?

saw that. My guess is that since the deal is that getting the answer right isn’t enough . . . you have to get it fastest, too, she was just putting the priority of the second above the first and got the correct answer by chance.

that’s my guess, anyway. I really have no idea.

Damn, that does seem possible but not probable. Not even David Copperfield has fingers that fast.

Yeh, and didn’t she leave with only $1000?

She was probably just in a hurry.

Hey SmickD, are you SmakD’s brother, or something?

also: tonight’s episode: one contestant shared the anecdote of falling down in manhattan and no one bothering to help him up.

Regis replied, “I’m surprised, they usually will help you.”

I’m thinking, “Sure, if you’re Regis Philbin!:stuck_out_tongue:

We’ve had some very fast response times in the British version, too. My WAG is that some contestants who don’t know the answer just push all the buttons very quickly and hope to get lucky, and occasionally they do.

That would also account for the ignorance of some of the people who get to the main game.

Daniel + TomH: That’s my feeling too, although she seemed to be fairly intelligent (but maybe a bit cocky?). The shuttle soon came crashing down to Earth though.

Reject Fill Bin said that she broke even the international time record by a couple seconds.

Damn spell check.

Funny you should mention this bda: I was precisely thinking of Lee Harvey Oswald after this little incident (fastest-trigger-in-the-world) happened…
