The 10th Annual Steelers March to the Super Bowl Thread

Ridiculous, perhaps, but that’s how it works. They took the ball and scored on the possession resulting from the turnover. Don’t be mad at me, that’s how it has always been.

I wasn’t talking about the Baltimore points off turnovers, as they ultimately were really due to the defense. I was talking about points that absolutely should have been scored by the Steelers. That miss to Wallace in the end zone cost the Steelers 4, and it was a dead-on, wide open easy play. Batch just got excited. Sanders was gone if he holds on to the ball. He had wide open field ahead of him, and no one had an angle. So, my point was that, barring the dumb mistakes, it should have been 34-20. I’m not going to complain about the points off turnovers, because let’s face it…the Ravens made some great plays to get those 14 points.

The Bengals are going to push that rib into the aorta on the field and Ben will finally and truly die a hero.

Just like earlier this year, right?

Yes, Big Ben died earlier this year.

I know you meant it in a sports way, but this really is a truly awful thing to say…about anyone. I have no love for Ben as a person, but I wouldn’t wish actual death on anyone. It’s really low class.

Don’t worry, he’s not really at any risk of death. Unless he’s going to choke on the bullshit he spews about his oh-so-grave injuries.

The injury that concerns me at the moment is Ike Taylor. For all that fans rag on his stone hands he’s quite crucial to the defense. Brown played well in his absence though so that’s encouraging at least…in many ways.

:stuck_out_tongue:

C’mon, Steelers fans, I only meant that a little.

You say you know he meant it in a “sports way,” as in, he didn’t really mean it, it’s just light-hearted harassment; but then you go on to say you think he really meant it. I guess it’s a whoosh.

Mike Florio just said that Goddamn Ike Taylor may be out for 2-6 weeks. Is it possible to be both happy and sad?

What I meant was, even though he’s ‘joking’, it’s a very poor taste comment. It’s classless.

Anyone catch the end of game handshake between Tomlin and Harbaugh? You can watch it here.

I want to like Tomlin, and I’m not a fan of the Harbaugh clan, but it seems from that video that Tomlin was being a bit of an asshole in the post game handshake and basically ignoring Harbaugh. Did I miss something during the game, or is this just a couple of petulant kids acting their age?

What did Harbaugh want, a hummer? He got a handshake, pulled Tomlin back, and got a perfunctory comment for his trouble. They’re not friends, allies or anything else. They are the head coaches of two teams that despise each other.

Looks like Ball-So-Hard might actually be done for real this time. He has a torn biceps tendon. If he plays, what with him already at 80% (maybe), he’ll hurt more than help. I can live with the outcome either way.

Roethlisberger’s throwing but not guaranteed to play this week. Personally I’d like to see them keep him out another week if he’s not ready. Mendenhall is already listed as out. Make of that what you will…

Tomlin’s next-man-up theory was sorely tested earlier this season but I’m impressed with how little drop off there has been in recent games. Lose all-pro Woodley? No problem, Woriilds has done just fine. Lose Ike Taylor? No problem, Brown steps up and the D gives up less than 180 passing yards. Gilbert and Adams both went down and Beachum played so well they stopped keeping help in on his side. Impressive, and bodes well for the strength of the team as they inevitably have to restructure in the offseason.
ETA: oh, and Shaun Suisham has suddenly become money this season. I don’t know how the hell that happened but he’s the unsung hero on this team right now.

Tomlin said today that Roethlisberger was making all the necessary throws and it seems he’ll start this week. He didn’t say that he can male all the throws though so he’ll probably be limited. Haley seems like he can work around that, actually as much as I was an Arians basher he did do a great job of working around Ben’s injuries with the pistol formation they went to when his ankle was hurt. For this deep in the season the only guys on the injury list are probably going to be Mike Adams and Ike Taylor, looks good.

Unless one team or the other seriously drops the ball, it’s shaping up to be a Bengals v Steelers showdown for that last wildcard spot. Of course, the Colts could also drop the ball and both the Steelers and Bengals get in despite the outcome of that matchup, but it seems unlikely.

Should be a good game either way. We always play the Steelers better at Heinz than at PBS anyway, if history means squat in this matchup.

Personally, I always find history means little. Teams adapt gameplans so much and then add in injuries and different rates of development of players…it gives us and the announcers something to talk about it but it’s only accurate in hindsight. The games still start tied at zero.

What’s your wildcard situation? Browns going to get a chance to knock you out in the final week?
