The 10th Annual Steelers March to the Super Bowl Thread

Epic? No… But important for the Bengals? Yes.

The Bengals suddenly look like the team everyone thought they would be. The Steelers suddenly old and inept. Defense cant hold a lead and offense can’t run the ball. That’s a bad combo to have.

The Bengals are better than the Steelers this year. But they need the win to prove it, if only to themselves. The Steelers have had the Bengals for lunch for so long, I can’t remember the last time they beat the Steelers when it really mattered. The last game that I recall truly counting was the AFC wildcard game. Steelers won and won the Super bowl. Bengals lost and went hoke in a funk. Well, it’s been a while, and the Bengals are starting to wake up again. They just need to beet someone of consequence. There isn’t a bigger monkey on the back of the Bengals (or Browns or Ravems, for that matter) in the AFC North than the Steelers.

If the Steelers beat the Bengals, the Bengals should fire their entire coaching staff.

Yet again, the Steelers begin by shooting themselves in the foot time and time again. Then a big pick and we run our standard “up the gut, up the gut, pass” play call, which is easily stopped and we lose even a field goal attempt after intercepting IN field goal range. We should be winning this game by 14.

How embarrassing, the march ends with a fumble. Sorry, yellow and black guys, I feel for you.

This is the worst team I’ve seen wearing the black and gold in a lomg time.

I don’t know if Tomlin coached this team very well year. They were ome of the top teams in the AFC before Ben went down. I don’t believe they’ve won with him back. His benching of Medenhall, while deserved, seemed to cause everyone to freeze up and fumble. This was a hard team to watch this year. I’m just glad it is over.

I think Mike Wallace is gone, and based on this years performance, I say good riddance. The first real deep threat we’ve had since Swann, maybe? Turns into Roberto Duran (hands of stone) this season. If I didn’t know any better, some games I could swear I was watching Limas Sweed out there.

Signing Plaxico was a joke.

The offensive line never came together because of the old injury bug, but the Steelers have fought through that before. Has Tomlin lost his edge with the players? I remember thinking Cowher had run his course after about 7 seasons, and that’s about where Tomlin is.

This team simply seemed to quit, and that isn’t something a Steeler team does.

But there were problems before Ben went down. They almost lost at home to KC, which is embarrassing. I don’t know what the Browns did today, but it’s possible that the Steelers could finish at the bottom of the AFC North this year, Pathetic for a team with Super Bowl aspirations.

I hope they sit Ben and play Batch next week. I also hope they try to get a running game. Dwyer isn’t going to do it.

Finally, the biggest problem for the Steelers to address in the off season has to be the pass rush. They get absolutely NO push from the front line.

Oh well. Our window is closing with Ben. So, they better run with the draft and they better stick their big toe in the FA market. Or the Steelers are facing a decade of mediocrity.

Just a terrible season all around. Worse because the talent is there…just dumb mistakes constantly cost us games. Almost every loss this year was just given away with dumb errors. Bengals D played tough today, but it was those early blunders that bit us in the end.

Go Colts?

Disappointing end to the season. Lots of issues that need to be fixed: these Wide Receivers obviously need a leader, a RB needs to step and be THE guy. The offensive line will be fine, the corners are shaping up to be the best group in many, many years, they just need some more snaps, safety depth has to be one of the top priorities in the draft.

Ah well, next season it will have to be. See you next year. Congratulations FoieGras, this ain’t happening twice!

What else is there to say? Has there ever been a season like this for any team? The Steelers were tied or ahead in every game save one (the Chargers), yet they are 7-8. They have the best pass defense in the league, the fourth best run defense, and the best overall, yet they are 7-8. Ben Roethlisberger was having his best season statistically until he got hurt. Following his injury the Steelers won a single game, and they only needed to win two. They beat the Ravens with a third-string quarterback but lost to the Raiders, Chiefs and Browns.

Well, today the Bengals were the better team. They were completely outplayed, but what matters is what’s on the scoreboard, and the scoreboard says that this thread is over. What was unthinkable a month ago is now reality. So, what else is there? Pride. Let’s see if they can muster up enough through the shame of the last month to beat the damn Browns in the closing week.

As for the Bengals, let it be known that I well and truly despise Cincinnati and always will, yet when the alternatives are the Patsies and the Ratbirds, I wish them nothing but the best. It’s going to be hard for me to watch the playoffs because it will continually remind me of the Steelers’ collapse, but I suspect my hate will sustain me even though football may as well be dead to me until next August.

I appreciate your candor, but I have an issue with your “completely outplayed” statement. The Bengals offense was putrid (as was the Steelers, aside from the run game in the first half), but the Bengals defense was not. That is what won the game. The Bengals defense is GOOD. Probably not good enough to propel them to a playoff win at NE or Denver if that horrible offense shows up again, but that defense is GOOD.

Candor? Admitting the Steelers are not a good team when they’re not a good team is candor? I guess with Airman Doors that is affirmative, sir!. I’ll appreciate his “candor” when he doesn’t start another pretentious “X annual Steelers march to the Super Bowl” thread next year.

Ah, another satisfied customer. Oh, wait, it’s the same guy as it is every other year. Damn, I was hoping for more fans.

Wanna call my team the ‘Donkos’ one more time? hur hur.

Still, sorry for your disappointment. It is hard to root for a team that can’t cut it.

That’s not really an insult, it’s a common nickname. Then again, your fellow Denver fans spam Fark football threads with Bronies, so it’s self-parodying, I couldn’t insult you guys any worse than you do to yourselves.

My football buddy would take it as an insult. Anyway, hopefully we’ll insult ourselves all the way to the Super Bowl

Don’t worry, Airman. I’m sure there will be a couple of Steelers at the Super Bowl for the Maxim party or something.

Maxim? Please. These are Steelers we’re talking about. Field and Stream, Cars on Concrete blocks Monthly, College Chicks in Bathrooms, and Hitting Women Weekly is more their speed.

Now that is just plain rude, if you want to be that way, you ought to take it to the BBQ Pitt. Which I would certainly welcome, the opportunity to urinate upon the cold ashes of terrible towels torched in the dismay of collapsed hopes and dreams sounds like it would be very satisfying.

Says the guy who wears a wedge of cheese on his head. Enjoy your Pabst.

I have never worn a wedge of cheese on my head.

I have, however, enjoyed many a Pabst. You’re at .500, which, if your team beats the woeful Brownies, your team will be. That’s not bad.

I have also never worn a wedge of cheese on my head. I have, however, worn a foam facsimile of large wedge piece of yellow Swiss, which is a totally fictional cheese. I am very proud of that. Surprisingly I have never drank Pabst, but I am guessing Old Milwaukee is a suitable substitute.
