The 12th Annual Doobie Brothers Smoke The Steelers To The Super Bowl Thread

Are the Steelers the most unpredictable team in football? They sure have me stumped. Whatever though. I’ll take this any time.

Luck is a tough son of a bitch too. I thought they had him so many times today. Nice to see the pressure coming. Worilds has been on fire lately and even Cam Thomas looked okay today.

And Kudos to Tomlin for making that fourth down shoot for the fences rather than the first down line call. it was gutsy and paid off.

Best called game from the coaches this year too, at least offensively. Defense had flashes of brilliance but still too many lapses in coverage.

Well, Browns beat TB, which is I guess more than you can say for the Steelers, but it wasn’t a convincing win, neither was the Raiders win. They can’t run for shit without Alex Mack and their big play passing game is predicated on play action. I can’t imagine with the sad 2-1 record over the last 3 games with no quality wins is very promising. But hey, 5-3. A lot of people were predicting they wouldn’t hit 5 wins for the whole year.

How tight is the AFC North? The loser tonight goes to last place while the winner has a claim on first place (ties screw everything up). That’s just nuts.

Anyway, if the Steelers play even half as well as they did last week they ought to win. But hey, it’s the Steelers. You never know what’s going to happen.

OK, so Pittsburgh is going to retire Mean Joe’s jersey at halftime tonight. Between that, the memory of the early season humiliation at Ratbird Stadium, last week’s breakthrough, and the fact that it’s the damned Rats in primetime, it ought to be enough to get them fired up. If they need more than that they don’t deserve to win.

So Ben set another NFL record tonight with 12 TDs in 2 games, the Steelers are more or less tied for first, and the Rats are in the basement. What a great game this was.

That said, Ryan Shazier must be made of glass. He got hurt again, as did Troy, who should have just wrapped the guy up instead of trying to lay the wood. Suggs laid a cheapshot on Blount, it got chippy… a typical Steelers-Rats game.

Next week: the Jets. Watch and see, the Steelers blow it. I’m enjoying this run, guys, keep it going.

This game and Monday’s were so awesome, I kinda don’t mind them losing to the Jets next week (which I think is almost a given). Anyway - this season may well come down to if the Steelers can beat the Bungles at their home this year. I think it’s eminently possible that they will…

Somebody lit a fire under their asses, that’s for sure. Is it possible that for once, all three Pittsburgh teams will have a winning season? Is that too much to hope for?

Ben gets his jaw whacked, throws 6 TDs. Flacco is driven to the turf and throws a lame duck to Worilds. I also like the way the offensive line held it together after it looked like the wheels were going to come off. Of course they switched to quick passes as well but they still played with more of an edge after Thuggs riled them up.

Why would that be a given??? (Steelers clearly playing well; Jets dreadful.)

That’s not really fair. It’s not like his injury this time was something that was a benign play that everyone else would pop up from. Did you see how his leg twisted?

Loved yesterday’s game but all I can think about is why, oh why did they let that stupid Tampa Bay game end the way it did. The standings would be hugely different with that extra win.

Steelers seem to almost want to lo lose to bad teams. I’m sure it’s perception bias, but I seem to recall a fair number of games against teams that should be little trouble and the Steelers losing or barely squeaking by. So far this year, at least 2 of the 3 losses qualify, and I don’t think the Ravens in the first game were all that good, either.

The Steelers always seem to play down to the level of their opponent. I am not counting next week as a given.

No.

Impressive two game performance by the Steelers offense though. Antonio Brown is a stud, Ben is Ben and it looks like that rookie receiver (#11?) is pretty damn good too.

It’s amazing how that guy has been on the bench for the first part of the season, much like the Bengals Jeremy Hill, whom only got the lead back role due to a Giovanni Bernard injury and promptly produced 154 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

I really hate that when a rookie produces bigtime in a very limited role but yet never gets to really see too many touches. You’re screaming for him to get out there more often and I guess I just don’t understand the reluctance of some teams to play highly drafted players in a skill position earlier in the season. Must be worried about the dreaded “rookie wall” or something.

Against Jacksonville.

Or, they don’t draw huge conclusions based on one game. Hill, prior to playing Jax (one of the worst run defenses in the league), as on a streak of 4 straight games without breaking 4 ypc. Take out his huge run, and he was 23 carries for 94 yards, or about 4 ypc.

There are also issues of whether he knows pass protection, blocking schemes, and the other parts of playing a running back in the NFL beyond running that way fast and far.

If you’re a player in the NFL, most likely you are capable of having a great game. It’s being consistently great that is so much tougher. Maybe Hill will be. Hell, you know I like him more as a true NFL running back than Gio, but let’s not overdo one game.

:smack:

He was a monster in preseason and makes things happen almost every time he touches the ball, and his touches have been limited. He was a beast at LSU. Perhaps there are other issues with him I or we are unaware of but good things happen when he touches the football. That’s all I am saying, and I have recognized that with him since they drafted him.

Edit: you don’t get to pick your opponents and last I checked Jax was still an NFL team. You also cannot conveniently subtract big runs from a RB’s total in order to try to make his YPC look smaller.

LOL! I call into question Megatron’s receiving numbers over the years because I don’t approve of the calibre of opponent; only stats from games against division leaders should be tracked. I’d love to stay and debate this but alas I must go…there are other people having rational discussions on the Internet that haven’t considered every moronic angle. The Internet needs me!

You’re absolutely right. I shouldn’t be such a negative wet blanket. Jeremy Hill had a great game and you’re right to be excited.
