The 14th Annual Steelers March to the Super Bowl Thread

The Eagles are 48-28-3 against the Steelers. They’ve been the Kings of Pennsylvania for quite some time.

I am a Philly guy, but until we either win a Super Bowl, or perhaps beat Pittsburgh in a Super Bowl, we are (sadly) merely battle-winners/war-losers…

“OK, we’re going to take you to a more competitive game…”

Considering that two of them were against the lowly Browns and Bears, that’s not particularly impressive. Holding the Steelers to 3 points, now, THAT was pretty impressive.

Right now, maybe, without Tom Brady.

OK, Pittsburgh, it’s time to make amends for that shitshow last week. The defense is hurting, just in time for Jamaal Charles’ return, but it’s a home game and Alex Smith can’t throw it more than 10 yards downfield. Plus, Le’Veon Bell is BACK! So make it happen, guys. Get back on track. 1st place is yours if you want it.

Looks like they want it. I didn’t expect this.

So I went to the Jets game last week. By the time I got home I was pretty wiped out so I didn’t comment on the game. What is there to say, really? The Jets are garbage. Fitzpatrick simply isn’t a good quarterback. And yet, the Steelers didn’t pick him off and only sacked him 3 times. Pittsburgh’s defense is both weak and wounded. The offense, however, simply sparkles.

This week they get the Dolphins. Thank God for small favors. Another relatively easy game is just what the doctor ordered. Heyward and Shazier (as usual) are big pieces that won’t be there this week. But again, it’s just Miami. Which of course means that the Steelers will totally shit the bed. That’s how it works.

Boy, did I ever call that. Awful game on both sides of the ball from Pittsburgh.

The march has ended, or at least been dramatically slowed, with today’s game. Ben Roethlisberger will be out indefinitely with a torn meniscus, thus putting the offense into the barely adequate hands of Landry Fucking Jones.

It’s amazing how such a little thing can cause so much damage. If you watched the play where he was hurt, the defender just caught his foot enough to tangle his feet. He didn’t even tackle Ben, it was nothing more than a trip.

So, that appears to be that. This was the season, they had everything they needed, and injuries destroyed it. Maybe. There’s a long way to go. Maybe they can pull something off. But while a good quarterback doesn’t guarantee wins, a bad one guarantees losses.

So with Ben out 3-6 weeks (though that could mean next week, it is Ben), Ryan Shazier and Cam Heyward out, the defense somewhat porous even without the injuries, and Landry Fucking Jones starting today, I can state with confidence that the Steelers are going to get demolished today.

Hopefully the Ratbirds lose. They’re down 8 right now to the Jets, which is a pleasant and unexpected surprise. The Bengals are going to beat the Browns, so Pittsburgh will still be 1 game up in the division with the expected loss.

The only hope I have is that nobody else gets hurt today, especially Bell and Brown.

Well, the division is up for grabs now.

Well, for three teams.

I never meant to imply otherwise…

Steelers will still win division.
I have spoken.

Well then, I am glad that’s settled. No reason to get my hopes up then.

In this trying time, where the Steelers are stuck with Landry Fucking Jones under center next week and maybe the week after that, it is reassuring that the Bengals are there to help Pittsburgh’s cause. A tie? That’s so Bengals. And they tried so very hard to blow it, too. Burfict did what he does best, something stupid, and put the Skins in range to win the game. Alas, Washington’s kicker shanked the field goal.

But a tie will do. Thanks for the help, Cincinnati.

Next week, Ratbirds. A bloodbath game for the division lead. Great, just what I wanted to see. Who knows, maybe Landry Fucking Jones can pull it off. He played pretty well last week against the Patriots, making it a much closer game than it had any right to be. I’m cautiously optimistic.

It’s looking more and more like Ben is going to play this week. What is it with that guy that he can heal so quickly? Did he borrow some of Mr. Stabby’s deer antler spray or something?

There will, of course, be hell to pay if the Ratbirds hurt him, so we’ll see.

This game is going to be a great predictor for the outcome of the division. Steelers win and everyone’s looking up. Ravens win, it’s still a three team race for now.

Today, in Baltimore, the Steelers succeeded outstandingly in lulling the entire NFL into a false sense of security.
