The goaltender is not fair game just because he is out of the crease. It’s not Emery’s fault Getzlaf wasn’t watching where he was going. Emery was out to cut down the angle, which all NHL goaltenders have to do. Look what happened to Giguerre at the end of the first when Alfredsson caught him sitting on the goal line. One quick snapshot and Ottawa had the lead.
Getzlaf didn’t have the puck either, he was going after it in the corner and grazed Emery who was out of his crease. I didn’t say Emery was fair game, but when he was out of his crease, he is not untouchable. Emery sold it well enough to draw the penalty, but McCreary must have heard about the cheesy acting of Emery from the other officials during intermission, and then decided to let Emery know that crap won’t stick next time. Didn’t you see McCreary talking to Emery, Neil, and Alfredsson later in the game? I have it recorded, I was able to make out the words, “Your B movie acting sucks, Emery…stick with goaltending instead.” I’m pretty sure that’s what he said. Yeah, pretty sure.
Just go down fighting. That’s all I ask. Leave it all on the ice tonight.
God, I’m tired of saying this year after year.
I’ve never seen anything like it. First goal, off Phillips’ skate and in. Third goal scored on his own net by Phillips. Fourth goal tips off of Volchenkov and in. Alfredsson is playing out of his mind, and I don’t think that it’s going to matter.
We went down 3-1, and when you do that, you put yourself in a position when any mistake or any bit of bad luck can end your season.
Well, congratulations to the Ducks. They earned it, while Ottawa looked like they have in every playoff loss since 2003.
With Neidermayer winning the Conn Smythe, I guess that nobody has to buy anybody a membership. Pronger probably would have won it had the suspensions not taken him out of contention.
Congrats to the Ducks. I just wish it was September already.
That’s a Franklin for me! Roughly the same as the ad revenues NBC garnered for it’s three broadcasts.
I’ll always have the memories though. Don Cherry calling more fighting in the NHL. The cheap-shots. The NCAA Women’s Gymnastics coverage beating the Stanley Cup Finals in the ratings. The chest-thumping nationalism in Ottawa. The first in time in sports history that a team named after a crappy movie won a championship. Wondering why a team called the Senators has a picture of a legionnaire on their uniforms. Al-Jazeera trying (and failing) to cover the Cup finals.
When Does Anlanis release acoustic versions of the national anthems?
Ducks Win!!!
Gosh that was fun. The game was loud, my ears are still ringing and my voice is gone. But I am still happy and losing alot of work what with people wanting to talk about the game. My brother was happy with the win cause now he can shave and boy did he need to he was getting awfully scraggly looking and maybe a bit creepy looking :).
One thing that happened is that on the 1st game of the playoffs a young boy about 3 yrs old spilled pizza down my back onto my white uniform, then the 1st game of the 2nd round I got pickles spilled down my back and since we won both rounds, a superstition was born with the guys who sat behind us. They tried dropped their clean towels on me but we lost that game so then they had to sprinkle beer onto me, we won. Last nite was not exception, I had beer in the hair, but we won, so I “took one for the team”. But it was all in good fun and there was no malice intended, just beer.
I will be going to the rally on Saturday evening .
I can’t wait til next year to start.
Hopeless. That’s what it was for Ottawa. That sequence when Alfredsson scored the shorthanded goal, and then the Ducks came right back with a goal of their own–that said it all. The Sens never really had a chance. But the Ducks were big time all season, so congrats to them; they’re certainly a worthy champ.
See you all next season.
Great job, Ducks…virtually exactly as I predicted back a couple of months ago. Not much more to say about it except watching the players hoisting the Cup and the emotions generated by them, their families, and the hometown crowd made it quite special, especially the brothers Neidermayer, Selanne, Pronger, and of course, Giguere. Congratulations.
