Let The Quest for the Grail Begin!

I hope your fridges are stocked with beer, that you have plenty of snacks handy, and that you’ve got a backup for the remote because tomorrow, the quest for the holiest of holies begins in earnest.

I speak of our Holy Grail, the Stanley Cup.

It wouldn’t be spring be if the Dallas Stars and Edmonton Oilers weren’t facing off in the first round would it?

The Oilers are bigger, tougher, and wiser and the Stars are hurting without the services of some of their best. My prayer to the hockey gods is that Oilers kick the ever loving shit out of those godless bastards from the south… in six games. They could very well do it.

I may have to sell someone’s firstborn to guarantee success and if our ten year old keeps rooting for Colorado he may find his soul on the block.

I can see an all Canadian final brewing with Ottawa being the favourite in the east and the west being a bit of a crapshoot.

Edmonton vs Ottawa sounds good doesn’t it?

One team with very little money taking on a team that is bankrupt for the cup final.

What did Sather say when he left Edmonton? Give me an unlimited budget and we’ll win the cup every year?

Once again, the Rangers will be playing golf after blowing $80,000,000 on salaries.

It would warm the cockles of my heart to see the little guys come out on top.

I can barely wait… only 17 hours to go.

So shall we be awarding the cup to my beloved Wings now, or must we go through with actually playing of the games?

I hate hockey.

Oh man… The only game I’ve actually watched this year was the one on the Saturday before St Paddy’s Day. Roomie and I went to the Captain Tractor concert and before that started they had the game on the screen.

We ignored the game for the most part until the Oil started scoring and kicking ass (literally). Wish I’d been able to actually go to it, but it was great sitting drinking beer and hanging with the guys with the big screen overshadowing the dancefloor. And with a concert pending! The whole night was great.

(Yes, I am a girl. Why do you look at me that way? :stuck_out_tongue: )

Yep. Something I look forward to every October.

Hockey in June.:dubious:

And this is in the Pit why?

Of course we must go through with the games. If we didn’t, I wouldn’t be able to acquire any more great memories such as Roy springing to his his feet and throwing the puck in his own net, or that ever so precious look of drepression as he was pulled in game 7.

Obviously you’ve never read the other hockey threads.

It’s going to get a lot darker before the dawn.

Meanwhile, I’ll be setting my blackhawks jerseys on fire over here in the corner

d_odds are good of my Islanders making it past the first round. Ottawa doesn’t stand a chance.

Why no, I haven’t been drinking. Why do you ask?

SYDNEY OR THE BUSH!!!

I honestly don’t see what the big deal is.

Cecil has already mentioned that the Holy Grail is fictional.

Get with the program, people.

Cecil, while not overtly wrong, was being a bit too literal in answering the question. The asker’s failure to mention Lord Stanley probably had Cecil looking in the wrong direction.

Soup - You know that spring has arrived when I start my annual “Grail” thread. Stay tuned, you’ll understand very soon why this thread belongs in the Pit. Detroit and Dallas fans can get really bitter when their teams get their asses whupped.

jarbabyj - sweetie… I’m sure that you’d love hockey more if you cheered for a real team (you know I’m just kidding you). You could always cheer on the Oilers…

5-HT - A fan of the Detroit Dead Things… what a surprise. They’re probably going to get a pass in the first round as any team named after a Disney movie has no right to play the greatest game on earth. Maybe one day Selanne will get to play for a real team but until then it looks they’ll be having roast duck in Detroit. After this they might see some real competition and if I recall correctly, the Oilers made Detroit their bitch over the last season and I know you guys don’t want to play Vancouver again. I’d start praying that St. Louis pulls a miracle out of their ass and upsets the Canucks in the first round. Oh yeah… GO DUCKS!!!

D_Odds - Let me pass along my condolences now, I don’t think that the Islanders have a hope in hell of making it past the first round.

I hope Boston and the Devils eliminate each other…

Petter - Get thee hence from this place for you are an unbeliever and an infidel.

It’s only three more hours until all hell breaks loose…

Dallas… must… lose…

GO OILERS!!!

Feynn, it could be worse. I could be a Rangers fan.

The Cindarella story begins…the Minnesota Wild take the cup

D_Odds - I didn’t think the Rangers had any fans.

NurseCarmen - Having Minnesota win wouldn’t be a Cinderalla story… it would more of a comedic tragedy. It’s the stuff that nightmares are made of.

Fuck you shits, ya’ll know it’s New Jersey’s time this year.

Go Devils!.

And barring that, Go Stars!

“Go Devils!” ?

“Go Stars!” ?

Blasphemy!!!

:puts Blackeyes at top of his list:

jarbabyj - I recall that you once pledged allegiance to the Oilers… does that pledge still hold now that Captain Doug is playing with the Blues?

bolding mine

I just wanted to enjoy those memories again… Go Wings!

I think Cornell is going to take it. Yah. College hockey’s more fun, 'cause you don’t get Chuck-a-Puck in the NHL.
