In anticipation of the summer sale, I dropped 25 bucks for a logitech PC game controller the other day. So far it works rather nicely in Saints Row 3. Shaped more or less like a PS3 controller, though it doesn’t feel quite as nice.
Been trying 2 hours to buy stuff, but the servers are so pummeled the payment always ends up failing. Should’ve loaded up the Steam wallet beforehand I guess.
At least it’s not flash sales or anything else urgent.
Plants vs. Zombies 2 is supposed to be coming out in a week or two right? Anyone know if Steam will get it on day one or is it one of those deals where the company sells it on their own site first and then it goes to the ethers of the internet later?
Alan wake was awesome actually, and I believe I played it with the gamepad. If you prefer playing games like this on a gamepad, then definitely pick one up. As I mentioned, you got lots of options, from using your existing wired xbox gamepad, a wireless one with an adapter, a PS3 gamepad, any number of third party game pads like logitech, or buying a hybrid/windows branded Xbox 360 gamepad.
The PS4 and Xbone game pads are said to plug and play out of the gate on PC as well.
I definitely complement mouse and keyboard for stuff like racing games, some third person action games, and to switch into whenever I’m on an FPS with vehicles (battlefield 3 for example).
Thanks for the input. Yeah, now I remember reading up about that Motioninjoy driver when I briefly considered doing this before, but I heard some bad stuff about it. Just looked it up to refresh my memory and apparently the Motioninjoy utility requires a constant internet connection so that they can serve you ads. If their website or your internet is down, there will be neither motion, nor joy.
That, alone, I might be able to live with since the devs gotta eat too, but apparently their non-compliant driver is known to wreak havoc on the whole Windows bluetooth stack and even a complete uninstall leaves behind the resulting corruption. Yeah… no!
So, I’m still reading up on it, but it sounds like I may try going with an old, wired PS2 controller connected via a PS2-controller–>USB adapter that costs around $5. Yeah, I could just buy an Xbox or generic controller, but I vastly prefer/am used to PS controllers and I have a plethora of them just laying around, including long extension cords.
Now it’s just a matter of hoping my cat cooperates by not seeing the cord as a play toy, as that’s one of the main reasons all my input devices have been wireless for years now. (-_-)
Yeah, I really liked where that one was going, and the atmosphere was thoroughly engaging. But controlling my toon was like dragging an anvil with a rubber band. Which is the issue I run into with some of the other ports, like GTA4 and LA Noire (although I was able to finish that one - the effect wasn’t so bad and the game relatively forgiving of my stock car style driving). Some other games, like the latest Witcher and Gothic 3, only had this problem on the menus - the gameplay was smooth enough.
I’ll see if a gamepad will fix it. I’ve gotten into the habit, however, of just giving up on ports with this problem because it seems like a deeper problem and none of the stuff I see on the forums seems to actually affect the problem (although even there I seem to encounter more posts bragging that “this game is so easy! what are you whining about?” than addressing the issue some people are having).
Is it just me, or is Anno 2070 frequently on sale, but never quite a good enough deal to buy?
Heh. I’ve been thinking that for years.
Is anybody else’s Steam showing the list price in Euros and the sale price in USD on the front page? For instance, I have:
Anno 2070
[del]€19.99[/del]
-50% $14.99
All the other games are like that too…
Nope. Mine is showing $ for both the original and sale price.
I hear that, it’s always either 33%-50% at max. Give me 75% or give me death!
So far bought X-COM 75% off and Batman Arkham City GOTY 75% off. X-COM was an absolute steal for how much fun I’m having with it.
What’s the deal with these card things? I’ve got two for Kerbal Space Program (and one for Reus) - does this mean I have copies of it or something?
Btw, FTL: Faster Than Light is a bargain at the price right now. As is Just Cause 2 and The Walking Dead.
Waiting for AoE II HD and Metro: Last Light to go down lower than 25%/20% respectively - is this likely?
I’m thinking we should start a thread after the sale for trading stuff like cards, coupons, games etc.
I’ve already got 2 copies of Civ IV to give away and lots of duplicate cards.
Wow, today seems like a great day in sales.
Tomb Raider (the new one) is only $12.49
Nazi Zombie Army is 5 bucks…
The Witcher 2 is 5 bucks…
LA Noire is 5 bucks…
Hitman: Absolution is a little over 6 bucks…
Resident Evil 6 is 20 bucks…
I don’t really like this new trading card system. It seems to me that the previous Sale gimmicks were a little more fun.
Anybody know anything about Kinetic Void? It looks interesting, but “sandbox” usually means “limited playability,” in my experience.
How will you be notified? Do I have to constantly be checking my wishlist on Steam, or will it possibly come in an email? And, if the latter, do I have to mess with my settings?
And is there any way to limit to the Adventure genre without also getting “action adventure” games? Basically, want to do a search for “+Adventure -action,” if at all possible.
Yeah, I’m new to Steam. I only got on because I got some codes gifted to me.
Really? Kerbal Space Program is ‘just a sandbox’ at the moment. Check out the 5 page thread on it.
I have no idea what Kinetic Void is like, but a well done sandbox is hardly limited.
I didn’t mean to offend any particular game, sorry!
However, Kinetic Void calls itself a “sandbox” game, and also mentions that you can watch the game “grow” along with the developers. If the sandbox elements are what they’re touting in a possible unfinished game, there might be a shortage (or complete lack) of missions, or challenges, etc.
Email and probably not. Just look for a message from Steam Store with the title A game on your wishlist is on sale!
If you like/want the old Tomb Raider games, I-VI are 91% off right now – 62¢ each. The new ones are 80¢ and $1.74 for Legends.
