DJ Z here. I’m gonna go a few different directions here:
KC & The Sunshine Band - Boogie Shoes
And we’re out with:
Led Zeppelin - Communication Breakdown

Karen Carpenter’s voice was almost unreal in it’s beauty.
Thanks for the Fleetwood Mac. No 70’s thread is complete without them!
“I’m So Afraid”- first recorded in the 70’s, but this is a 1997 performance from “The Dance”. I LOVE Lindsay’s guitar in this.
This one squeaks by- Linda Ronstadt performing her 1970 hit, “Long Long Time” on Bobby Darin’s TV special.
I used to refer to her as the “queen of remakes”, but she had quite a voice. Probably still does.
Few more:
Thin Lizzy - The Boys Are Back in Town
Paul McCartney & Wings - Band on the Run
Glen Campbell - Rhinestone Cowboy
And I’ve gotta put this because I really dug this song in the 70’s: Terry Jacks - Seasons in the Sun
Paul Revere & The Raiders - Indian Reservation
Cheap Trick/Dream Police
George Harrison/What is Life
Supertramp/Give a Little Bit
Eric Carmen/All By Myself:
(That piano interlude in the middle is just gorgeous…it’s a pity they didn’t play it on the radio. It’s Rachmaninoff, IIRC.)
Rick Nelson/Garden Party
Travolta & ONJ/You’re the One that I Want
ETA @ Face: Long, Long Time is one of the all-time greatest torch songs. Thanks for posting it! What was I thinking? :smack:
And they both sang/sing in my range! (and yes, LR still has an amazing voice)
How about a little something from Redbone… with bonus cowbell
…and for more my style…
Sex Pistols - God Save the Queen
… and my cheat (though formed in '78)
Social Distortion - Mommy’s Little Monster
Is 1970 a cheat? since it’s actually the last year of the 60s decade.
One of my favorites by him - and I love it this time of the year.
I wouldn’t think so. Any song from a year in which the first three digits are “1”, “9”, and “7” should qualify.
Did I miss it, or did someone already say Tin Man by America (1974)
Yeah, America, wow. I’d have to go with *Ventura Highway *as their best…and *Muskrat Love *as their WTF, get off the drugs already, moment. But Horse with No Name, how ginormous was **that **song?
Listen to Neil Diamond’s album “Gold.” Ok so the song were pre-1970 but the versions were 1970 plus…he just beats the hell out of some songs. Wish I could find his version of "Brother Love’s Travelin’ Salvation Show’ from that album on youtube…
OK, changing gears it’s time to work in some twanger stuff:
Crystal Gayle/Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue
Willie Nelson/Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain
New Riders of the Purple Sage/Panama Red
Anne Murray/Broken-Hearted Me
Cheat, 1981: Frizzel and West/You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma
Ladies and Gentleman I give you:
**OK, time for Dr. Funkenstein to reanimate the thread.
Paddles----CLEAR!**
O’Jays/For the Love of Money
Billy Preston/Will It Go 'Round in Circles
“Still flatlining, doctor!”
“Clear!”
Stevie Wonder/I Wish
Sly and the Family Stone/Thank You Faletinme Be Mice Elf Agin
Brief blip on the heart monitor, then…it’s ALIVE!
“More, Dr. Funkenstein?”
“Good God, nurse, we don’t want a funk overdose on our hands!”
“Sorry, doctor. What was I thinking?”
“Stop by my office; I’m prescribing you a 10cc injection.”
And in other 1970s news:
Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes/If You Don’t Know Me By Now
Three Dog Night/The Show Must Go On
Freda Payne/Band of Gold
ETA: Lee Michaels/Do You Know What I Mean?
Great picks! I love that O’Jays tune, and was going to post a live version of it before. Here it is(performed in the 80’s)
Boston- A Man I’ll Never Be, live. Live footage of Boston from the 70’s is hard to find. Brad does a very nice job on the vocals here.
Stevie Wonder- Superstition. It’s took me awhile to get used to the different sound, but it kicks ass. Probably the greatest musical performance ever on Sesame Street! Check out the kid rocking out at 38 seconds
More great Marshall Tucker Band - Take the Highway
Argent - Hold Your Head Up
My cheat: Was written in 1967, made a hit by Peter, Paul, and Mary in 1969
John Denver and Cass Elliot - Leaving on a Jet Plane
Skip the first 1:30 to get to the music
Edited to add: thanks for the Three Dog Night vid! That’s a great, fun tune! Tremendously popular for a time, but few ppl could name any member of the band. I only remember the singer’s name, Chuck Negron, because his cousin is comedian Taylor Negron.
No, it’s not. 1969 is the last year of the 60s decade. 1970 may be the last year of the 197th decade, but it’s not the last year of the 60s.
:: sitting quietly in the back to take down names & order background checks ::
You only THINK we can’t stop you.
Re: Three Dog Night, I see the entire Intervention for Chuckie Negron is on youtube:
Sad stuff. Chuck was a junkie, wife was a junkie, and little Chuckie born addicted. Won’t say how it ends…
