The 80's have NOT left! (and a damn good thing)

Just watching “Family Guy” and there was a HILARIOUS spoof on Fast Times At Ridgemont high, quite possibly one of the funniest movies ever produced.

Thank you thank you thank you

“Hi Brad. You know how cute I always thought you were.” [cue music]

Fucking beautiful!!! There IS hope for the world yet.

The 2000s will be a big decade of 70s and 80s fads/references. And next decade, the 2010s (teens?) we’ll have more of the 80s and then the 90s! At least, that’s what I’m predicting.

I predict a resurgence of the “Gay 90’s”

According to an ad on Lileks’ site, the 1930’s were called “The Queer Thirties”.

I saw the episode you’re talking about.

I am a fan of the 80’s ((sorry, it was a good time for me))

Everytime I hear that Car’s song, I think of Phoebe Cates getting out of the pool, and the bathroom scene to follow.

One day I’ll see that film. It’s been on TBS I don’t know how many times, but I refuse to watch anything on TBS because they chop it up so bad it don’t make sense.

You know SHAFT? Classic line when he comes out of the diner, and the cop asks “What’d you get?” and Shaft says “I got laid.”

On TBS, it became “What’d you get?” “Damn you.”

Hee hee hee . . . I was watching the show last night, and as soon as I heard the music and saw the news anchor get out of the pool, I said, “Oh my god, they’re doing ‘Fast Times at Ridgemont High’!” I was expecting some setup to get Meg to say, “Doesn’t anybody knock around here anymore??”

Boy, do I love the SDMB. I knew y’all would get it.

The worst butchering of a movie for airing on TV has to be Repo Man. That movie is full of foul language, and they changed every occurence of the word fuck to flip. The resulting dialog was priceless: “Flip you!” “No, flip you!”

Okay, now back to our regularly scheduled thread…

A local radio station 'round here has Martha Quinn doing an eighties lunch show. I love it so much I can hardly stand it! I can sing along to just about every song they play, and then Martha comes on and starts talking about some other eighties stuff.

Agree! Sort of.

In the 80’s, we had the 50’s come back in the form of Happy Days. In the 90’s, the 60’s came back with The Wonder Years. Here we are still at the start of the 00’s, and we’ve already got That 70’s Show.

Nostalgia is big business.
