The 9th Annual Steelers March to the Super Bowl Thread

At one point, I thought Tomlin was going to start screaming and spitting ala Bill Cowher.
Oh well, in other news, Troy Polamalu has signed a four-year contract.

With the Steelers or Procter and Gamble?

A-HEM. Post 65, I believe.

 But thanks for the link, I was too lazy to do that. And we really got our d*cks kicked in on that game. Just ugly. At least my Chargers did well.

I can’t figure out why the Patriots get so much love given that they’ve not been back to the Super Bowl in years yet consistently are predicted to get there. Check that, actually, I have a pretty good guess.
[/QUOTE]

If your pretty good guess is that it is because:

[QUOTE=Airman Doors, USAF (except for the two changes noted)]
Since 2003 they have missed the playoffs [del]twice[/del] once, each time by a single game. They have also made four AFC Championship Games (a 50% success rate), won it 3 times (a 37.5% success rate), and won two Super Bowls (a 25% success rate). This in a conference with 16 teams including the [del]Patriots[/del] Steelers and the Colts.
[/QUOTE]

Pat’s regular season record since 2003: 101-27 / Steeler’s: 83-45
Pat’s 16-0 seasons since 2003: 1 / Steeler’s: 0
Times Pat’s had an MVP since 2003: 2 / Steeler’s since [del]2003[/del] 1979: 0
Pat’s cheerleaders: here / Steeler’s cheerleaders: here

In fairness, Taylor did shut his man down. Boldin made all four catches for their WR corps covered by Gay and McFadden.

I think the problem with this game is the same as it was with the Super Bowl. Poor preparation. Tomlin gave them an easy preseason mainly because they have so many veterans and did the same thing in the playoffs. There’s some merit it doing that but I think he gave them too much leeway. I think they’ll bounce back, the big guns will get back in the groove.

The question marks are the same now as they were at the end of last season. How long can they keep winning with what are essentially journeyman back-up type guys starting on the o-line? How long can they win with Gay and McFadden leaking on one side of the field?

They can’t. they are through. Start rooting for Cleveland.

In the seven years since the Patriots last won one the Steelers have won two.

Then again, I guess you need to fall back on something. What’s that song playing in the background? “Glory Days”? 18-1 means nothing if the 1 is in the Super Bowl.

Ugh, Willie Colon out for season. The one positive I was trying to take from yesterday’s “game” was that at least the Steelers suffered no major injuries. There goes that thought. I wonder if they’ll try to get Flozell back in shape and bring him back.

Christ. Bring back Flozell AND Max Starks.

Oh, this is great. The offensive line circus starts again. Did I call that or what? Not that it was a tough call or anything.

I swear, the Steelers draft well, but it sure would be nice if they might one day draft an offensive lineman. Every time Ben takes a snap they should start playing Yakety Sax.

That one is going to hurt. It remains to be seen how much.

That would be worse than the beating they took Sunday.

Gilbert is being promoted to starting RT. They’re high enough on him that they think he could be the LT of the future (à la Marvel Smith) so it will be interesting to see how he makes out. I’d still rather see Max Starks holding down the left side in the meantime.

So the NFL fines a total of 4 players for actions in week one, and half of them are Steelers. Ike Taylor for a head butt and Polamalu for the horse collar. That’s an impressive percentage.

Color me surprised. And sarcastic.

I misread. I think more than just 4 players were fined last week. Woodson, Roberts, and a bunch of other players were fined too.

I can understand who you would have misread it. Several of the stories that showed up in my feed made it sound that way.

I always find it amusing when people are so intent upon hurling insults that they get it completely wrong. That seems to be a problem in your case, doesn’t it, Hamlet? I could just see the glee, the unbridled joy you had when you thought you could take a free shot at the Steelers, followed by the massive deflation when you had to come back and say you screwed up. Hubris is a bitch, isn’t it?

Speaking of hubris…

This is the week that Pittsburgh gets well again. A weak opponent, the home opener… this should be money in the bank. Pittsburgh wins this game in a walk. 28-7, if Seattle scores at all. If they get beat by T-Jack and his merry band of ineptitude the Steelers are in deep trouble. I’m not exactly worried about that, but last week’s performance can’t help but put a little bit of a chill into the bones of every Steelers fan.

Meh. Two Steelers get fined, and it’s on me for getting the number of other people fined wrong. That’s the kind of Steeler thinking I love.

Yeah, that’s it. You were rocking the “Steelers are a dirty team” meme, you didn’t do your homework about who was fined what, and you had to eat crow when you forgot that the dirtiest play, by far, in the first week was Woodson being a punk with that uppercut.

Way to deflect.

Deflection is exactly what you’re doing. I know, it’s tough when your team has twice as many fineable actions and three times the money in fines than the “dirtiest play” of the week. So you have to make it about me. That’s fine. That’s actually what I expect in this thread. And, if you noticed, Woodson’s actions were roundly criticized by Packer fans on this board, and … hang on let me check this thread again … not one condemnation by Steelers fans here. Again, not a surprise.

Last week’s game was disappointing but certainly nothing to panic about. It’s not like the Ravens are chumps. A statement has to be made with this game though if we’re to believe this is an elite team. As much as I admire the guy I like that they’re taking Farrior out for some series. They should be doing the same with the D-linemen. Has a non-head coach ever won coach of the year? If the Steelers make the playoffs this year Sean Kugler will surely be deserving of the honour.
