After participating in several recent threads on surface to air missiles and their current threat, I peruse the AP Wire this afternoon to read this story:
This is an out and out error. If only they read the SDMB, they would not be printing these lies, which I’m sure are being picked up all over the world due to the sensationalism of the topic. By the way, the error is in a 9:40am PST story in this Las Vegas Sun paper website, hopefully they will fix it.

Oh, I have seen some delightful headlines on the AP! My favorite was, “Marilyn Quayle to Top National Christmas Tree for Last Time.” Ouch!
A couple of funny goof-ups I heard on the TV news recently: one was a story about a grandmother in Queens, NY, who’d shown up after having been missing for a couple of weeks. The newscaster said, “The Queens grandmother showed up at her home last week, to the relief of her family.” I thought, Jesus—Queen Mary showed up at Buckingham Palace?! I’d think they’d all run screaming in terror from her! And an escaped murder suspect was described as having “green eyes and a long red hair.” He should be easy to spot . . .
Typos can trip you up every time. At the small radio station where I worked in the late 1960s was a large sign that said PRE READ ALL COPY! but we were young budding DJ stars and we didn’t need no steenkin’ copy pre-reading…until one day I came to a phrase mentioning that Prince Sihanouk of Cambodia had been indicted on nine counts of treason, though the AP wire had omitted the “o” in counts… and after that I really did pre read all copy
