"The AI Doc: or How I Became an Apocaloptimist"

This Netflix documentary, The AI Doc: or How I Became an Apocaloptimist , gets 5 stars from me. It’s presented in an entertaining way, varying opinions are shown in a balanced way, and it’s not so technical that the average person wouldn’t be able to understand it. Experts in the field are interviewed, and Musk and Zuckerberg are interviewed as well. It is presented in the following way.

  1. What is “AI” and what makes it different from anything previous to it? Why will AGI be even more potent?
  2. What are the negatives associated with this and where could they lead us?
  3. What are the positives and how could they bring about a renaissance in human development?
  4. Where next, and how can we deal with it?

There is some criticism that the presentation isn’t technical enough, which makes no sense to me because the target audience is the average person and not people who understand code.

I highly recommend it.

Thanks for recommending. I’ll watch it.

I like the overview because it tracks how I think about AI. I think you can analogize AI to human intelligence.

  1. Humans have gotten more intelligent and devised methods to exponentially build on our intelligence.

  2. Our increasing intelligence can, and has, been used positively.

  3. Our increasing intelligence can, and has, been used negatively.

  4. What’s next? As we’ve gotten more intelligent, has the world gotten better or worse? Regardless, what can be done about it?
