The Amazing Race 10/23/11: "I Feel Like I'm In The Circus"

Delayed. Looks like the game ended at 7:15, so the Race should start at 8:15.

Ooh, good thing you mentioned that. I haven’t been anywhere near a TV all day, so I was wondering about a possible delay.

Official Eye-lert time: 8:18 ET.

Signing up for the CBS Eye-lerts was possibly the smartest thing I’ve done in months.

started at normal time for me

Was the game blacked out there? We’ve still got 60 Minutes going here.

CBS didn’t have the double header, so only the people who had the afternoon games get the delay.

Basically everyone in blue and green on this map:

Ah…I didn’t realize there was that much disparity in who gets what games. Yeah, I’m right on the eastern edge of the PA blue blotch.

Oh man. Team Dude are fucking churchies?? Getting all self-righteous while at the temple?

Fuck them. Here’s hoping they go away soon.

I was pretty surprised by that.

Also surprised by how much of a prick Lawrence was being tonight. Telling Zac not to bother taking notes, then telling him not to blame him that he didn’t have notes. He was a real douche.

Someone ought to kick Lawrence in his smug, pompous, fat ass—At the start of the show he was on his high-horse, saying that his greatest contribution was the “wisdom” that he brought to the team and was constantly imparting to his son, then when said son Zach suggests taking notes at the next task (pretty wise of him if you ask me) his father tells him to forget it and just blindly rush to take apart the little shrine willy-nilly.

Yeah, Team Dude lost a lot of points from me tonight. And you know they didn’t JUST start this on this leg…their kind of churchy self-righteousness doesn’t come and go like that. So the editors have been giving them a sweetheart edit (because there’s no way they don’t know how people feel about that…remember the f’ing Weavers?), probably because the snowboarders haven’t had any reason to pull that stuff out during a task until now.

Jennifer gained points, on the other hand. Her brand of Christianity doesn’t rankle…she recognizes that just because someone doesn’t believe what you believe doesn’t mean it’s right to treat their beliefs like crap.

And Lawrence needs an attitude adjustment. Zac SHOULD have blamed him for them not taking notes. Also, Ernie.

I was surprised at how many teams correctly deduced that they would have to reassemble the the shrine, and had the foresight to take notes. I was sure that no one would.

What happened to that rule that racers have to stay close? Ernie and Zac both went back on their own, leaving their partner at the Roadblock site alone. I guess that doesn’t apply while doing a RB?

I call producer shenanigans on the bus stopping to wait for the twins AND the cab driver giving them a “free” ride to said bus.

I was kind of in and out during tonight’s episode; What was the deal with the fare for the little open-air trucks that drove the teams to the bus station?

Did each team get a different price for the ride?

It kind of seemed like there was a little extortion racket going on, but I may be mistaken.

Anyone else catch that Maybelline Color Explosion ad? Did anyone else think the model looked like something out of Cirque De Soleil with that crap on?

Actually, I think at least three of them came up with the same fare, 4500 baht. And you have to remember that they were driving them to the first Roadblock and waiting for them, too.

Looking it up online, 4,500 baht is $145 USD, so Ernie & Cindy were way in the wrong trying to force the cabbie to take just $100. If that random woman hadn’t intervened (and I noticed she was using a calculator to get the correct conversion) they would have totally screwed him over.

And several of the cabbies all gave the price as 4,500, so it seemed pretty standard with however long that ride would have been, it wasn’t like that one guy was trying to rip them off.

I’m disappointed with the snowboarders. I enjoyed them up til tonight, when they just had to break out all the God stuff, and how they obviously know who the One True God is and the Buddhist temples have no meaning, blah blah blah. As opposed to the classy comments by Jennifer, how even though she was a Christian and had different beliefs, that didn’t mean that the temples were any different from her churches and deserved the same amount of respect. That’s the way to portray Christianity in a positive light.

Lawrence is an ass, though it was funny how he actually ended up being right about the bus situation. At first when Zac said the first class thing might be an issue, Lawrence was all “No. It’s fine. It’s not a problem.” Of course, since so much airtime was spent on it, I thought that would end up being a problem as well and was a bit surprised when Phil said the rule only applied to airlines.

I don’t think it was producer shenanigans so much as the cabbies seeing two American girls followed by a camera guy & sound person, so it’s a chance to get on TV.

Which makes me wonder, what do people think they mean when they blame things on “producer shenanigans”? It’s just the team & two crew members. Just how are the producers supposed to get involved at that very moment right in the nick of time in order to stop a bus or make some cabbie take a team for free?

I don’t necessarily think that every great break a popular/pretty team gets is producer shenanigans, but you don’t think the traveling producer with each team is in pretty much constant contact with the home base producers?
