The Amazing Race 10/3: "Oh, Wow! It's Like One of Those Things You See on TV!"

What does everyone think about the ‘bottom 4 gang’ Mary&David, Lyn&Karlyn, Tom&Terry, and the *Wins, (who aren’t in the bottom this leg but were in the previous legs) Will this be an advantage over the other teams who are racing against everyone else? It won’t help them at the end but it may GET the to the end. It’s an interesting strategy and one I don’t think I’ve seen to this degree.

Lastly, where are all the surprises we were promised?!

I don’t think it’s a strategy; they’re just the weakest of the teams and end up at the back of the pack accordingly. The tWins are a potentially strong team and this leg demonstrates that. I think we’ll see the backpack cleared out over the next several episodes.

The mid-point elimination from leg 1. The West to East race. Starting an early leg with no one getting any money.

Here I am, a day late and a dollar short. We were on vacation until (checks VCR clock) 15 minutes ago. And all the good stuff has already been said, but I will add the following (most of which do not actually pertain to this episode, but they are tangentally related, because they’re about an Amazing Race, anyway):
[ol]
[li]While on vacation, I watched this week’s episode of the Race while lounging in a whirlpool jacuzzi tub with a stunning view of Niagara Falls – both the American Falls and Horsehoe Falls – right out the window.[/li][li]In keeping with my bizarre idea that “vacation” = “dragging Mr. rockle to anywhere that Phil has been,” we took a tour of the Falls Region and saw an actual Whirlpool Jet Boat from TAR: Family. (Too cold to go out on ourselves, though.)[/li][li]We also went up into the CN Tower (but we couldn’t find Rolly Weaver’s elevator operator) and took pictures of the parking lot where the clue flag was located (the one with the “Ship or Shoe” Detour).[/li][li]Mr. rockle even agreed to go to the Bata Shoe Museum with me, but we couldn’t find it on foot (heh), so we went to the Hockey Hall of Fame instead, which was even cooler, because my husband used to work with someone whose college jersey is in the Hall! (It’s weird, though – the HHOF is in some kind of mall.)[/li][/ol]
Anyway, great trip, but next time? We’re staying somewhere with free Internet access, because I missed you guys.

I hope that upon realizing it was too cold you screamed “I can’t do it!” and wept uncontrollably.

Heh. Not at the Whirlpool Boats, but I did throw a fake mini-tantrum at the CN Tower (I am desperately afraid of heights). We also had an incident when we were getting ready to go home and I shouted, “I’m packin’ it!” in the general direction of my suitcase, which actually got a laugh from the mister. And when the shuttle bus driver dropped us off in front of the casino, my husband said to him, “You just won me a million dollars,” which got us a few funny looks, but which I found unbelievably endearing. (I didn’t know he paid that much attention.)

The best parts of the whole vacation were when we were in the car on the way home, and we got stuck in traffic due to a disabled vehicle on the interstate, and my husband stuck his head out the window and yelled, “My truck is broken! This is bullshit!” And also when he didn’t say a single word when I complained in the CN Tower gift shop about how I couldn’t buy any souvenirs that said “The Amazing Race was here.” (Because they should totally sell that stuff to lunatics like me.) I don’t even think he rolled his eyes.

There is a park near me with assorted bikes or bikelike things available for rent. One of those things is the infamous “Party Bike” from TAR: Family–and yes, I’ve seen people riding it. (No, I do not have enough friends in the area to ride one myself–nor do I have much interest in doing so. But, I do confess to thinking “Hey, I’ve seen that before” when I saw it. )
