If you are the non-participant in a Roadblock, I don’t think you are allowed to help in any way. You can yell encouragement, but no help. Which is probably even worse - you know you’re brother is screwing up royally and you can’t say a damn thing!
The person not doing the Roadblock can’t help their teammate in anyway or else they get a time penalty. It was a close race to the mat without the penalty; with it, the brothers had no chance.
I don’t think the brother who was standing there was allowed to say anything.
God, Dana is heinous. Why is Matt still with her?
Huh. Non-Roadblocking partners are always yelling things to the Roadblocking person. I assumed that would fall under “encouragement”, I guess.
It was just last season that Alabama mom yelled at her son, doing the Roadblock, to do the thing with the thing. Sure enough, they were assessed a 30 minute penalty at the Pit Stop.
Yeah, if non-RB brother had said, “Man, she’s right here,” they’d have been given a time penalty. Must have been agonising for the one not doing it to know how the other was screwing up so royally and not be able to do anything about it. Amazing Editors were very kind in not showing him kicking his brother’s ass. That was two dumb mistakes in two episodes. Wanted to like them–but you can’t keep doing stupid stuff and stay in the race.
Rachel and Zach were incredibly lucky. Not counting the money before they left the task was daft, and they were lucky to get away with it. They were third in the first leg, sixth in the second, and ninth in this one–not a great trajectory.
Blair continues to screech and her father continues to be terminally bewildered. “Besos for pesos” set my teeth on edge, but they survived and, at eighth, got their best placing so far. Which, likewise, ain’t great, but at least it’s a slight improvement.
Joslyn and Erin ran a pretty steady leg to come in seventh. No dramas, barring the claustrophobia attack, but I don’t know that they’re top three contenders–they just don’t feel like that strong a team.
Sheri and Cole. He’s gotten less annoying, and they did the tejo detour okay, and this is their highest placed finish so far.
Brittany and Jessica are pretty consistently mid-pack. Little of the promised “we’re not afraid to flirt to get ahead”, thankfully, and there might even be a sense of humour in there somewhere, but again, not looking like leading contenders to me.
Is there a #freematt hashtag? First in the first ep, fourth and fourth after that. If she doesn’t explode and get brains everywhere, or he doesn’t kill her and hide the body somewhere, they might make the top three: for all that she needs to chill, they do seem to know how to work with the dramas.
Burnie and Ashley have had top three finishes in the last two episodes. Not much seems to freak them out, and they’re doing pretty well even if the lack of drama means a lack of camera time.
Korey and Tyler continue to impress. They seem to have the knack of taking it seriously, but not getting wound up and all hyper about it. If fatigue gets to them in a few legs it might change, but they’re doing pretty well so far.
Brodie and Kurt: yeah, Brodie needs to tape his mouth shut some, or at least learn how to lower the volume. Kurt did well. Fluent Spanish, didn’t freak out, did the roadblock well and got them home in first.
Something I’ve never seen before. Why is Phil not announcing what places teams are finishing?
Very glad to see the models get eliminated tonight. “No one is helping us! We’re in last place, why does no one help us!? They should help us because they’re women and so are we! Everyone is so mean!”
Uh, because you’re in last place and if someone else helps you, then they will likely be in last place. You realize this is a race, right? And while everyone wants to be first, all that really matters is not being last. Whiny idiots. Very obvious they are used to getting things they want handed to them.
Exactly. Plus the whole “Imma stand here and complain instead of doing the task.”
Though, to be fair, that could have been a fairly short stand-and-whine that got edited to look longer.
Nice of Phil to answer the trivia question about when/if such a bunch-up at the mat happened before, though.
Could anyone read the seat-count clue? Did they have to do the sit-stand-sit-stand all the way along, or could they have counted for, say, four seat sections (marked by the legs/supports underneath) and multiplied?
On top of them whining that no one was helping them (which this show needs more of, honestly, not less) they also seemed to be putzing around at the train station, though that could’ve just been editing.
I think for the bench task they needed to sit/stand the whole way down, especially since the clue said they had to repeat it if they got it wrong. I really appreciated that to prevent teams from just giving away the answer.
When they found out they were going to Switzerland, I could have sworn I heard someone ask “What country is Switzerland in?” But hey, at least they all pronounced Chamonix correctly, so they did much better than the folks who went to the Hag-gue last race.
My brain thinks that was Blair, although I can’t SEE her when I try to remember that scene, so I may be wrong.
It was either Blair or the models, can’t remember which. I facepalmed.
I didn’t notice who asked. I was watching the person whom the question was directed to, as she stare blankly, thinking, “Did I hear that right?” She then replied, more kindly than I would have been able to, “It is a country.”
I could have sworn I herd several mispronunciations of Chamonix, including “sham-oh-neex.” But I may be misremembering.
In any measuring or counting task they always either make them do it over, or wait some period of time, before entering another guess. Otherwise they’d just start guessing numbers over and over until they got it right.
The best example was back in Season 18, when they had to bike across Liechtenstein and measure how long the country was (20ish km I believe). If they got it wrong, they had to bike back and do it again.
It seems from the continued lack of activity, that a season long thread would be appropriate.
Can we get a mod to alter the thread title to reflect that reality?
I’ve ‘reported’ this post to bring it to a mod’s attention.
For the benches, would it have been legal to use the newspapers to measure out the number of newspapers between bench supports, then math out the correct number, then do the sit stand nonsense, then report the correct number?
I think you had to do the sit/stand thing. But it seems that it would have made sense to very quickly do the math and figure out what a reasonable estimate would be. It wouldn’t have helped the team that was close to, but right outside of the range, but it would have told the team that got 240 that their counting was completely off.
I thought it said that one of them must be sitting at all times, but I wonder if that meant have one person sit there while the other one does the counting. Getting an estimate would have helped quite a bit. I guess the two women were smaller then average and that’s what threw them off but so much.
