The crying looked pretty fake to me. Brendon doesn’t really pay her much attention or engage her much emotionally, so it seems like every time there’s something for her to drama about, she takes it, because hey, here’s a reason for him to pay attention to me/care about me/show some kind of emotion to me! That’s why she seems like a drama queen. And him- people say he’s passive aggressive, because he says things like, “Oh, that’s okay, we’ll just get eliminated”, instead of urging her to do it, or comforting her that she made the right decision. They do not have a healthy relationship.
I’m looking through a bunch of pictures now and don’t remember but a handful. I don’t even remember most of the winners! I’ve been watching since s.5 too.
Some questions:
-
Since Phil didn’t say anything, can we assume Vanessa was wrong and they did do 15 Wheel barrels?
-
Has blonde girl started smiling and laughing more because she knows she will be starting her divorce proceedings as soon as the Race is over?
Vanessa isn’t mean. Rachel is a cry baby.
Yes, I assume she was wrong. Plus if they hadn’t done the right number of barrels then the graphics back at the task would have been lying to us.
Phil mentioned in his livetweeting last night that he spends about 10 minutes talking to each team at the mat (and that this time with them it was about 40) so it may be that “I hope there were no penalties” is a normal part of his matversation and it just never produces anything worth putting on TV.
Rachel is a crybaby. And Vanessa is mean. I probably wouldn’t want to spend a day in a car with either of them.
Well maybe so, but if there were any problems with the correct completion of the tasks, Phil wouldn’t be getting that information by asking the team members. He’d be getting it from the producers so he could impose any penalties when the teams checked in at the mat.
True, but him asking the players wouldn’t be a quest to discover information but a) to tease them with the possibility, and b) to get them to discuss any uncertainty about things that might make for useful camera time.
Just like the “give all your money task” last season, Phil asked the teams if they’d done that, even though he already knew the answer.
Vanessa is definitely a bit mean. I don’t care who it is, no sensitive human would tell a woman she should have had a nose job. That’s just beyond normal, even if you’re talking to someone like Rachel. Maybe especially if you are.
Of those left, I’m rooting for Dave and Rachel. And they clearly have the best chance, in addition to being the least-hateful.
Except…is she mean? IIRC, the only person she ever snarks on is Rachael. And frankly, if Rachel has these meltdowns several times a day and was ruining my race around the world by spewing drama everywhere, AND I was forced to be with/near her a huge chunk of the time, I’d be pretty pissy too.
Based on what has been shown? Yes, she’s mean. She may be justified in not liking Rachel, but she’s been mean about it. And being mean to only one person isn’t.
Not being mean to people you like is easy.
Yes, she’s mean. Just because it would be easy for any of us to rag on Big Baby also doesn’t alter the reality of just how big a bitch Mean Girl is. I hope both of those teams crash and burn. And Team DickHeadCops.
Yeah, I’m not a fan of any team left this go 'round.

Nick and Starr last name was SPANGLER.
How can anyone not remember STARR SPANGLER?
(other than some notable singers)
Hopefully she does not marry the Incredible Hulk’s alter ego and become Starr Spangler Banner.
We DO have standards here, you know…
Your agonizer, please.
Oh stop, you guys are killing me!
Question for long-term TAR watchers:
This is only my second season, but the seething douchiness of Art & JJ has me wondering – has there ever been a situation where they had a team such as those two had their buttons pushed too far?
I can see a situation where someone could recognize that Art & JJ are 1) A strong team likely to make it into the finals, and 2) A pair of hot-headed jackasses who could possibly be manipulated. If you were to be outwardly dismissive and condescending enough to them, it’s likely their egos couldn’t handle it and you may be able to bait them into physically attacking you.
I would imagine punching out another contestant would spell the end of your journey. Has there ever been a physical altercation like that on the race?
Not between teams that I can remember but for the ultimate in taking things to the edge or in the opinion of many, too far and not quite getting kicked off the race have a look at Jonathon and Victoria.
Unlike, say, Survivor – most of the interpersonal dynamics are between team members, and not from team to team. They just don’t interact with each other all that much, so there’s not that much opportunity for one team to push another’s buttons – with the possible exception of hanging around airport terminals.
As Kisha and Jen showed us, you only need to win one leg.
I heard from someone who was at a TARcon who talked to either Phil or a racer, (so, we’re talking at least 4th hand info) that the rules at the time of Jonathon and Victoria didn’t permit Phil to throw people off for abusive behavior*. The rules were changed afterwards so he could.
I don’t know if that’s true…I can’t imagine any show not having a “We can kick you off for any reason whatsoever” clause, but allegedly, that’s why Phil/Producers didn’t actually throw Jonathon off.
*And ignoring the “shove”/“hit” incident, he slammed car trunk lids on her head at least twice, closed doors on her at least once, threw his backpack at her and raised his hand as if to slap her (and then caught himself, realizing the smack would have been on-camera)
From what I’ve read of the racers, that’s not right–remember a leg (in the old days at least) was 3-4 days of real time compressed down into 40 minutes of broadcast time and it’s more now since pit-stops aren’t strictly 12 hours, no matter what. They’re with each other quite a bit on planes/trains/etc. They also sleep in the same place and eat/sleep/mingle at the Pit Stops. Some contestant (Gus of Gus and Hera maybe?) said that a contestant was so obnoxious that it really did ruin his enjoyment of the entire experience. The hippies were apparently terrible too–they’d “play pranks” on the other racers, they’d be obnoxious on planes to every passenger, racer or not, etc.
