What a week it was.
Pay attention to what’s happening in the state legislatures – it’s some really serious shit that’s starting to happen, and it’s particularly frightening because that’s how you can assess how ‘organic’ and developed the movement is.
Trump himself is an avatar for bat shittery; it’s important to realize that there are ideas behind the avatar and that the movement was already there. It’s just been looking for a flag and a flag holder. He also proved that what they’ve been fantasizing about doing to their liberal opponents for years, can be done.
This is lovely, if unsurprising:
Charge then with “shitting on democracy” , should be an addition to destruction of Federal property.
Pop culteral reference of the day. It wasn’t enough that they “broke and entered”. Dumb fucks weren’t smart enough to avoid additional charges
Can someone please parse this for my dummy reptile brain–
Is he…won’t Kalama be the Senate Majority Vote after 12:01pm 1/20/2021? Is he ENSURING this?
She can only break ties. I don’t know how that works on a motion that requires a supermajority.
CNN has a headline up from NY Times:
Trump regrets committing to a peaceful transfer and condemning violence at the Capitol
I don’t know where NYT got this, I see nothing on their site yet
He’s saying the Senate isn’t scheduled to be in formal session again until the 19th and the pro forma sessions that are scheduled between now and then cannot conduct serious business without 100% consent from the Senate members. Since that will never happen, no matter how fast the House moves the Senate by rule won’t actually be able to take up the issue until the 20th.
Behind closed doors, he made clear that he would not resign and expressed regret about releasing a video on Thursday committing to a peaceful transition of power and condemning the violence at the Capitol that he had egged on a day before.
From here: Democrats Ready Impeachment Charge Against Trump for Inciting Capitol Mob
That’s exactly what I thought he would say. Trump wanted to cause chaos because he knew it was his only way to stay away from prosecution. So then the shit hits the fan, his aides and his party realize he’s radioactive and back away from him, and then he realizes he has to backtrack, but he never meant a word of it.
In the end, if you’re gonna coup, you can’t half-step; you gotta just go full-throttle. As I believe Alessan said a while ago, he didn’t really plan any of this shit out; he just kind gimmicked his way toward a coup.
But he damn sure laid out the blueprint for future coup leaders. Of that we can be sure.
The newly-elected WV insurrectionist was arrested and arraigned today; check out what he wore to court:
At least there should be no doubt what team he’s playing for, eh.
I just went to Google to see if “dumbfuckery” is a word. It is.
No, I’m saying that if the National Guard was posted with force - Say a number of Bradleys and a few hundred men outside would have given Trump and all of his supporters to cry "FOUL ! This is proof that the electoral vote was stolen, because… " They will cling to any lame excuse they can. I’m also saying (if you read my post) that if a few hundred or maybe 50 additional LEO’s where inside the Capitol, once seeing an overwhelming show of force from inside (or when they forced their way in). It would have been over in a few minutes. There are crowd control measures besides tear gas (though that should have been used much more).
I don’t blame anyone but Trump and his enablers and supporters. But I think that the Capitol could have been better prepared. Supporting/surrounding the building with military, would have given Trump a soap box to stand on.
There’s more where that came from…lots more.
I’m tellin ya now: watch what’s happening in the state legislatures. It’s a cancer that is metastasizing.
I am sure they are trying to spread the cancer. But to what end? The state legislatures are going to reverse their certification of the votes? They can’t do that. Are they just going to stir around the bullshit? Let them.
I am seriously asking, what are the legislatures going to do?
What utter nonsense. Let me just flesh that out for you a little.
Damned if you do violently assault peaceful protestors.
Damned if you don’t make adequate plans to secure the seat of government from widely publicized plans for violent insurrection, failing to implement elementary security measures to prevent a riotous mob from invading the Capitol building and threatening the lives of our elected representatives.
When someone pointed out to a young Trumper on FB who was raving about how terrible immigrants are that his ancestors were immigrants, his response was ‘No, my ancestors were pioneers’. There is no fact that these people can’t work around.
And what I have said. And perhaps misunderstood, is that they should have been better prepared for something that pretty much anyone could predict. I don’t believe parking National Guard around the Capitol would have, In the end and WEEKS to come, done anything but make the situation worse.
Let me flesh this out for you. The LEOs, the actual people standing there on the Capitol steps who were overwhelmed by a mob, didn’t make didn’t make those plans, there were just people trying to doing their job. What the hell would you have done when you saw your forces were woefully inadequate to defend against a mob of thousands?
Now I am not one of those who always talk about the “brave men and women who are out there risking their lives every day” bullshit and defend the police no matter what. Most police never have to draw their guns. In this case they had a choice. Except for one, none fired a shot
The fault here is not with those front line officers. Well, unless they were paid to be passive, but I will not make that ASSumption until I have evidence of it.
