Actually, so long as it’s peaceful, isn’t it protected by a combination of the 1st and 2nd Amendments? Doesn’t the right to bear arms include the right to carry in a peaceful fashion, and if is it’s at a political gathering, part of expressive conduct? unless expressly prohibited by law?
Surely context matters. If a violent insurrectionist mob has just attacked the Capitol, and intelligence strongly suggests that more attacks from similar groups are imminent, does the Constitution really say that if another mob shows up carrying weapons, we must assume they intend only peaceful protest right up until the moment they start shooting? Surely the Constitution is not a suicide pact?

Yes, context matters, and if there is intelligence that more than a peaceful protest is planned, the police have every right to prepare.
But can you assume that everyone carrying a gun to a protest intends to create a riot, any more than you can assume that everyone going to a protest intends to create a riot?

I cannot believe the headline I just saw on the FOX News Webpage- “Acknowledgment of Blame : Trump recognized he bears some blame for Capitol riot in talk with McCarthy.” I had just went to the CNN page, their lead story was about a “Leaderless America”, Trump was going to Texas tomorrow to talk about the border wall. I wanted to see what the FOX page lead story was.
Even FOX News, apart from the trio of fascists every night, is backing away from Trump.
