Not coup-related, but too political for anything in the quarantine forum, and not “administrate-y” enough for the clusterfuck thread, so’s…
(considering this happened yesterday, then - really? This is the first post, anywhere, about the Portland capitol shenanigans?)
(Hm…also no idea why this link ain’t showing the article as well) (gotten too spoiled by discourse!)
It’s like he gets a big dopemine rush from it, which he thrives on, sort of propelling him along. In believing only his own reality, he’s such a lost sociopath deluding himself with “ominpotent” - and definitely megalomanical - “aspirations”.
Biden plans for the next covid bill to be more substsantial, but as we all know, not if it’s an R. majority senate, and for that, the disenfranchised will make themselves heard.
To think this thread might eventually catch up in post count to the election D/W/M follow-along thread…
ETA: heh, especially when I pad it with my multi-posts.
You look at our election fight, it was very popular, many people were saying it, that maybe it was the most popular election fight in our great nation’s history, great ratings, CNN and the failing New York Times should be thanking me, nobody ever had ratings like that, not even Fox who’s really gone downhill, nobody watches them now except probably for Sean, since they didn’t support me, many people have said that was the biggest mistake Fox ever made, and Biden, Sleepy Joe’s ratings will be a joke compared to mine.
I had to try my hand at one of these. Kudos to those here who do this really well.
If someone says that they choose between “Trump and action,” that describes a choice between action to stop Trump and inaction.
So asking about actions they took rather than actions they didn’t take is missing the point. What the post was saying is that Republicans constantly ignore Trump’s illegal actions rather than go up against him, and that this is causing harm.
Yes, when forced to choose, the judges made the right decision. But nearly all Republicans just did nothing or actively supported Trump’s attempts to install himself as dictator.
And that has been happening his entire presidency. Trump has broken several laws, to the point he was even impeached for some. Yet Republicans continue to refuse to do anything. Even their impeachment votes were to not do anything to the President.
Citing the fact that some judges did the right thing only tells us that judges take the law seriously. But this won’t be about judges. This will be about the military, who are already predisposed to authoritarianism. They are used to following orders, even if they disagree with them.
I do think Trump has pissed off the upper military brass enough that they won’t listen to him. But, had he not done so, I’m not remotely so sure. Despite constantly dishonoring vets, so many in the military still idolize the man. After the 2016 election and the 2020 mask protests, I no longer presume the integrity or morality of anyone. I’ve seen so many people who pretend to have ethical standards give them up for Trump.
Finally, I note that the actions we are actually most concerned about are violent reactions from Trump’s nutty followers, which did in fact already happen. Don’t forget the people storming the places where the votes were counted. Don’t forget the people who had a plan to kidnap a mayor.
I should have said not all of them are. Certainly the ones who were going to kidnap Whitmer are, and most of the Proud Boys and many smaller groups. I read a long story in The Altantic a while back, I’ll try to find it. The ones interviewed were not raving lunatics saying that mask mandates were tyranny. Extreme beliefs, but David Duke is not an idiot nor is Slimy Sean Hannity or Lying Laura Ingraham or Sucker Carlson or Rancid Rush (soon to be literally true, sorry) Limbaugh
My general idea was, if it comes to that, that the blue states would impose very strict lockdowns, the red states would not, because of tyrannny, and the blue states would close their borders and this would in the long term result in secessions. But not very likely, the Northeast as a whole would have to unite, and California, well a lot of California is rural, the whole state is not made up of left wing, communist, Jewish, homosexual pornographers, to quote Annie Hall.
But I didn’t really think much about violence in the streets, and I certainly should have. But I still don’t see that happening because of COVID. Many more are going to die, I hope it’s not more than 100, 000. But if the vaccine doesn’t work, or there is a new strain (s) for which another vaccine is needed, we may be in Contagion movie territory.
Now back to our regularly scheduled Trump bashing.
He’s admitted as much in his PowerPoint to Mitch McConnell. “He was the first one off the ship.” When is that expression typically used and how? It’s usually rats abandoning a sinking ship. I have never seen it used for a ship that has just successfully completed a voyage and is looking forward to the next one.
I think he does think he won, by a landslide, he has bought into the bullshit about Dominion, and the statistical “analysis” of Navarro. "I led by 100,000 votes in PA on election day, and I won certain counties by 80% margins. I said there was going to be fraud and look - I was right!!! Any idiot can see that is bullshit but Trump is beyond being an idiot, we need a new word. What he said about Moscow Mitch was because he will not go along with the bullshit.
I think he knows he is not going to be President in a month, so if you mean it in that sense, probably, but he still thinks there is some way, a miracle like one for COIVD, that will save him
Do note there was a earlier $1200. And it all depends, for some that is not enuf, for others it’s just fine, and for a few, it’s beer money- if they even drink beer.
No, we don’t all know that. Biden knows the senate, and can likely lure one or two over. During the last years of Pres Obama the GOP held a 10 vote advantage. Now it might be as small as one. Ten votes is tuff, one vote- can be done.
Yeah, I had a good job when I got mine, spent some on a few things that I didn’t really need. Felt a little bit guilty about it, only because I would rather my $1200 go to a family that could not pay their rent without it, but there is no way to divide up that trillion dollars that evenly, but it did help the economy. When I get my $600, I am going to buy a new guitar.
And yes, if I were a truly decent human, I would give my $600 to charity. Hell, maybe I will.
I missed my edit window. I don’t mean to imply that anyone is not a decent human being if they don’t give all they can to charity. Most of us could contribute more if we really wanted to, but are we all supposed to give up our TVs and phones and computers and live with just the most meager things to keep us alive?
If R’s hold the majority and Mitch McConnel decides its not coming to a vote, it’s not coming to a vote. Doesn’t matter if Susan Collins really wants to vote for it – she’ll never get the chance unless Mitch as Majority Leader brings it to the floor.
Trump is a bullshitter who only thinks about branding and self-enrichment. I don’t think he puts much thought into what the truth is. Right now saying the election was stolen means he doesn’t need to admit defeat and it’s earning him a bunch of money. So that’s where his train of thought ends.
