There’s an Ameriquest Mortgage ad running that features a man coming home to fix dinner. His cat gets up on the counter and knocks over a pot of what appears to be spaghetti sauce. The cat jumps down into the splattered mess. The man, who has a large butcher knife in one hand, picks up the cat (now covered in sauce) by the scruff of the neck. Just then, his wife (I assume) walks in to see the man holding the knife in one hand and an apparently bloody cat in the other and a pool of “blood” on the floor.
The tagline?
“Don’t judge too quickly.”
Now, I happen to find this to be a funny commercial (but, I do have a warped sense of humor) and I like cats.
I haven’t heard anything negative about the commercial.
I saw the commercial for the first time a couple of days ago, and a cat-lover, I thought it was hilarious. I think a good part of its effectiveness is how it’s deftly executed, taking an absurd situation and rendering it completely believable. Funny stuff.
Oh, I just saw that one for the first time the other day. I could not stop laughing.
What did it for me is that the guy was so obviously trying to do something special for the wife. IIRC, he set the table nicely and was trying so hard to make sure everything was perfect. And then she walks in, obviously tired after a long day, dry cleaning in hand, and she doesn’t find this special wonderful candlelight dinner. She finds her guy in the act of murdering her cat. Heh.
I am fairly certain that this guy was not her husband (other wise he would have had is own key) so he was trying to impress his girlfriend (someone much less likely to wait for an explanation then a wife) when this happened.
The vibe I got was that she was his girlfriend, and this was one of their first dates. Or at least, their first date at one of their homes. So he’s trying to get everything just perfect to impress her.
Either way, though, yeah, it’s funny. And without even being gimmicky like most Superbowl commercials.
