Can anyone tell me what’s up with the Anaheim Angels and their helmets? I was just curious.

Are you asking about the pine tar?
They aren’t burned, it’s pine tar. A lot of players put pine tar on their helmets so they can just tap their head if their hands are slipping on the bat. Some players do it just because they like the look. Sometimes it’s just gradual buildup of pine tar, dirt and general grime because the player won’t let the equipment manager clean his helmet for some superstitious reason. And, of course, some players prefer a clean helmet and some organizations dictate that the helmets be cleaned and polished before every game (I think both New York clubs do this).
