The Apprentice -- 3/18

It’s not too soon to start with the pregame speculation is it?

Troy and Kwame will, presumably, get to pick someone to even up the teams. At this point, it seems like there are two possibilities: If they decide to go for strength, they’ll probably pick Bill (since The Donald made it clear that picking Amy twice a bad idea, presumably sh’es out of the question. On the other hand, they might be looking for someone to throw to the wolves if they make their third straight trip to the boardroom – in which case it’s Katrina, no question. I can’t really come up with a scenario where they pick Nick – he’s too much of a fuck-up to be a strong partner, but too strong to be the obvious cannon fodder that Katrina is.

And, damn, I think I’m going to be out tomorrow night – I don’t think I’ll be able to watch till Friday.

Unfortunately, tomorrow is just going to be a clip show. They’re doing some kind of “recap” of the show up to this point (which really means they’re just padding the series for an extra week of ad revenue). The actual competition won’t return until next week.

By George you’re right, Diogenes! My TV listings don’t go into detail, so I hadn’t realized. Woo hoo! I’ll still tape, but I won’t be twitching constantly between 9 and 10 – which I’m sure my escort will appreciate.

Do you have a link for this? I’ve seen a couple of ads showing them in Atlantic City this week.

I also don’t know how it makes sense for the timing. There are six players left. There’s going to be a live finale on April 15. By my count, they need to eliminate one player a week to have 2 left for the April 15th showdown. If they’re skipping a week, does this mean there will be three people in the finals? I have to admit, this makes a certain amount of sense from the team perspective. There’s no way to even up the teams when you’re down to three people and two against one seems pretty unfair.

They’re not exactly bragging about the fact that it’s a clip show this week, but that’s what the description at MSN’s TV listings says.

I guess it’s all about making the finale happen on April 15th – which, you’ve got to admit, is a brilliant flourish.

Oh, and the ads with Trump going on about HIS pageant and HIS hit show both being live the same week – then Sam coming in dressed as a pageant contestant? Funny stuff.

Is it possible to buy stock in Mark Burnett?

A CLIP SHOW?! Those jerks.
If you’re selling smack to junkies, it’s kind of cruel to put them off for a week with, “Hey, I know you got bugs crawlin’ all over ya right about now… but instead of setting you up with a new fix, let’s take a look the fun you’ve had shooting up so far.”

Twick! Gotta date?

The listing on Yahoo TV says:

That actually sounds good. If the bulk of the show consists new footage, commentary by the Donald, and (hopefully) more from George and Carolyn, I’ll be more than satisfied. Their opinions of the contestants are usually more interesting than the actual tasks, IMHO.

Yup, actually. You do realize that if you had Yahoo IM we could discuss my fascinating social life – and many other things – in excruciating detail?

So is anyone going to talk about the (very little) new stuff on the show?

After being hit on the head with SEE-ment, Omarosa called a doctor to the suite who told her “It’s just a bump on the head. You’ll be fine.” When Omarosa said she had to renovate an apartment the next day the doctor said “Just take some Advil and you’ll be fine.”

Apparently not satisfied with this diagnosis, Crisis-orama huffed off to a hospital in order to get a more favorable (to her) opinion. Every time I think my respect for her has bottomed out, I’m proven wrong.

It was kind of fun to see everyone from week one describing themselves.

My favorite line of the night came when Tammy was getting the axe. Trump was riding her about her disloyalty, and she interrupted him with:

“So, was it my disloyalty this week or covering the whole timeframe?”

Trump:“Let’s say…it doesn’t matter.”

Ouch!

Bleah. That was really lame.

At least it was better than what they typically pull with Survivor.

Oh, and check out this article. It describes Omorosa’s standing by the racism claim, and some reaction from the public to her.

Good link, Leaper, thanks!

She wants to do commentary on the upcoming election? Yikes. There’s a viewpoint we need to hear more from.

Agreed – the stuff about her bump on the head was hysterical. Other than that, I was well this side of riveted.

Like Bean, I was actually looking forward to this show, to get some insight into the Donald’s thinking process, and more about how his decisions were made. There was none of that, it was mostly just replaying the “here’s what happend last week” clips.
All of us junkies were left frustrated and unsatisfied.

I liked seeing everybody’s introduction at the beginning. They didn’t show those in the first episode, did they? Jason’s line “if somebody’s a day late with the rent I start the eviction process, because that affects my cash flow” might explain why Trump seemed to hate him from the get-go.

Lay it on me, bro. I’m-a there.

You know, Sam was a horrible contestant for this show, but he had one of the best post-firing perspectives we saw last night. I’d love to have a drink with the guy.

It’s also interesting to note who realizes that this is, at its heart, a game show, and who doesn’t want to admit that. Ereka, for example, is unhappy that Nick and Bill used strategy to keep themselves from getting fired. The big difference between her exempting Kristi and Troy exempting Kwame, it seems to me, is that Troy was able to come up with rational reasons and unemotionally present them. They may have been bad reasons, but he wasn’t thrown for a loop. Ereka basically melted down.

That’s what’s so sad about him. In a casual interview environment, he comes across as extremely intelligent, even halfway endearing. Put him in an actual business situation, though, and he morphs into this flailing, clueless, starstruck, axiom-spouting flake.
