There’s no need for magic. My entire point is that Trump can and is being resisted by the same means that have been available to Americans for centuries - organized protest, boycotts, and court challenges.
Naysaying that by declaring that he’ll do whatever he wants and ignore the courts is morally equivalent to telling people not to bother speaking out against him.
Give each one consideration and hold it against the cold light of recent events.
How many of Britt’s 14 points would have to be happening – even a little bit – before reasonable people of good conscience, sound mind, and with some informed sense of history … worry.
It might be helpful, then, if you could be as precise as possible about:
just how much worry about Trump is appropriate, and
just how much of a problem he (and his administration) is
Because – for the life of me – I can’t figure out what your position actually is, other than chastising or deriding people whose level of concern is even marginally different from your own.
Donald Trump is the single greatest existential threat this country has ever faced and every good American should be very concerned about it and willing to resist him to the best of their ability.
Which means NOT telling people that he’s unstoppable and that nothing we can do will accomplish anything. You can’t hope to win a war against an enemy you’ve already decided is invincible - which today’s court ruling among other things clearly demonstrates he is not.
True. It’s not as if a tidal wave destroys absolutely everything in its path, and I’ve seen massive forest fires leave a few trees standing. You all have absolutely nothing to worry your pretty little heads over.
You cannot win a fight that you believe you’re going to lose.
They coulda used your like on D-Day. “Gentlemen, almost all of you are certainly going to die, and it’s not going to do a damn thing to stop the Nazis. Now get out there and show 'em what you got! Which is nothing, by the way.”
What helps Trump accomplish his goals are people standing aside because they have been brought to believe that it just isn’t bad enough yet to really worry about, let alone do something about it. Much like some of my relatives that were told that things have a way of working out legally if you just get out of the way.
Back in the 1930’s.
In Germany and a couple of other countries nearby.
What a load of absolute crap. The soldiers at D-Day weren’t the ones that were told there wasn’t anything real to panic about. The soldiers at D-Day were the result of others buying that crap until it was too late.
If you actually think that we should be brave, stand our ground and fight back because letting the law handle it for us on its own just isn’t enough, fucking say so.
