The argument that Trump will do whatever he wants and no one can stop him is really fucking boring

I think both sides of the argument in the OP are really fucking boring. None of us know what’s actually going to happen. Whether overly optimistic or the opposite, none of us have a crystal ball or proprietary knowledge, yet everyone is suddenly an “expert”. That being said, if I’m going to read fiction, I’d rather it be hopeful.

Then what solid steps should be taken? Any idiot can stand off, say “Well, that ain’t they way” without further positive clarification, and look wise.

The law is one temporary step forward (at best), and two steps back.

Literally the only thing I’m asking people to do in this thread is to not believe the propaganda that Trump is unstoppable.

Maybe others don’t see their position the way that you do. Maybe this whole either/or, black/white, all/nothing mindset is at the root of your problem here.

I just went outside. Nothing there. Nobody to fight.

Maybe let go of the notion that being sad, worried, pessimistic, frustrated, anxious, or depressed about the situation is inherently paralytic. Maybe question the certitude of your position on this. Just because you need it to be true doesn’t mean it is true.

Maybe let go of the notion that your brand of virtue is better than everybody else’s.

Maybe let go of the notion that You Are The Way And The Truth And The Light in this issue.

I’m sure you have your justification for equating lots of us with the MAGA movement. Maybe consider whether that was a wise thing to do, and whether it actually helped you achieve … what the hell ever it is you’re hoping to achieve, here.

Maybe.

Literally almost nobody here is actually saying anything like that.

Four fucking justices didn’t even think it was necessary to give lip service to the plain text of the god damned Constitution.

And Mike Pence and Dan Quayle may very well have saved our Democracy.

I’m not advocating for their canonization nor mentioning them at the likely-to-come-soon Conclave.

I don’t need to be a cheerleader for every single bullet that misses while the bullets are still flying.

Almost nobody:

“Sure, we won, but we didn’t win by enough points, so it’s kinda like we lost anyway!”

And which of those were lies? Which of those are we to handwave away?

Sorry, the goalpost belongs over there, not where you’re trying to move it to.

Four fucking Justices of the Supreme Court, picked by a President and approved by Congress, basically said “Constitution? What Constitution?”, and we should not see the fucking problem in front of our fucking faces?
Screw your goalpost analogy.

Please stop quoting us Philadelphia EAGLES fans.:smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Do you really not get this? The 4/9ths of the SCotUS, that you’ve assured us will stop Trump, just said that the clear text of the Constitution does not limit the actions of this President.

And 5/9ths is - wait for it - a BIGGER NUMBER than 4/9ths.

Is it your point that nothing be done until it is too late?

I really love how you will not address the significance of those four votes.
Maybe if this was a policy change required by state law from DoorDash you’d show some mild concern.

My point is that things ARE being done right now.

And they’re being done by people who believe they can make a difference, not by people who’ve already given up and decided that nothing anyone can do can possibly help and that even thinking it’s possible to do something is foolish.

The significance of the four votes is that four votes is less than five, therefore they lost and we won. Are you so committed to your pessimism that you can’t accept a victory where we can find one?
