The argument that Trump will do whatever he wants and no one can stop him is really fucking boring

Don’t bother. Never forget, you’re a Doper (and a pretty well-respected one at that)! If your thread title needs some notes perhaps they should be less are you bored now and more It’s not all that common, either.

(If the posts in this thread appear to belie that, I attribute much of that to @Smapti’s insistent assertions that look like anything less than 100% agreement with me is tantamount to unconditional surrender. TBH, I find it a little strident.)

And in recent years a handful of members of Congress have floated proposals to dial that back… with no real success. And it will be even harder now because everyone will “know who this is about” and make it personal.

Agree.

It’s the syncophants in congress that should start taking heat for this. Impeach him already. They had two times to do it, but didn’t.

I can’t believe for a second that Trump is the master mind behind destroying our economy. The mans simply a moron.

But as far as destroying our relations with other countries, well he’s a bully. That’s all he knows. He thinks that’s winning. Again, a moron.

While Krugman makes a good point, I would say that Trump is actually making offers other countries can’t understand.

And that is where this is unforgivable on Congress’ part. Obama used a lot of power that Congress had given the presidency and when they complained about it, he simply stated, “Hey, you made this the system.” If they were so worried about this “usurption” of power then they should have fixed it the first chance they got. They didn’t and here we are so fuck them.

And yes, I’d feel the exact same way for the exact same reason if someone s murdered in the Zone of Death.

‘Hey, leopards gotta eat!’

That’s exactly why he’s wrecking the economy. You don’t need to be clever to ruin things.

I can believe that there are ‘’‘’‘master minds’‘’‘’ that think destroying the economy will result in something positive for them and they have Trump’s ear Trump by the ear.

ISWYDT

Oh, we understand them just fine. Trump isn’t smart enough to actually come up with something complicated, after all. He wants one-on-one trade negotiations because he’s literally too stupid to understand multilateral trade talks.

And ultimately, all his “deals” come down to the same thing: Give him everything, you get nothing, and you must praise him for his genius and thank him for his generosity as well. That’s stupid, but not difficult to comprehend.

I was riffing on the old joke about the mafia don of some particular ethnic group or other who was so dumb he made you an offer you couldn’t understand.

Well, clearly I didn’t understand Don Tatterdemalion, then.

I don’t think he came up with the idea by himself though. He wouldn’t know a tariff from a sheriff. May he please discover the difference soon.

Yes, and laughing all the way to the bank.

Making and getting them done. In the recent Times interview he claims he has already struck 200 trade deals. We are all eagerly awaiting the details of these trade deals that should all be released in two weeks!

That’d be quite the achievement, since the US only recognizes 197 independent countries.

According to Scott Bessant, they are “Sub-Deals” and “Bespoke Deals”

Nobody is sure what the heck he meant by that.

Just what i was gonna say.

Bessant seems to have become the unofficial interpreter for Trumpspeak in this go-around.

More of a parrot than an interpreter.

I am enjoying how poorly Bessent lies though. Nervously clearing his throat, fiddling with his glasses etc, right at the point where he needs to improv up some bullshit.

Who doesn’t love a gazillion bespoke deals? That’s how you get the economy roaring back to life when every industry has its own fake-ass deal!

Shit is going south. I’m waiting for Trump to back-pedal on everything and then wonder why things don’t rebound quickly.
