Element #36. Or maybe it’s a faraway planet that was home to Jor-el and Lara Lor-Van.

Seems I’m missing something here. Is there a meaning other than “jawbone” or “insect mouth parts” that googling is not finding for me?

I didn’t post it, but yes, mandibles are mouth parts, and the term is used in both entomology as well as anatomy — both of which I would consider to be scientific fields of study
Your mileage may vary

-“BB”-

I give you the late lamented Maxilla & Mandible, “A Natural History and Science Emporium” a block away from NYC’s American Museum of Natural History. They sold fossils, dinosaur bones among others. They were open for 28 years, and closed in 2011.
“Walking into Maxilla & Mandible feels like stumbling into an attic where an explorer has stashed a lifetime of discoveries. A toothy crocodile skull smiles at visitors from the front display window, a stuffed boar’s head stares down from one wall, and moths the size of an adult’s hand are pinned inside nearby display cases. A basket of “assorted bones” sits on one shelf (six bones for $1.)”
