I joined the SDMB with the intention of hanging out in GD…and now, I spend 90% of my time in the Pit. The discussions there seem to strike just the proper balance between humor, vitriol, and intelligent debate (see my little ‘belief in determinism’ spat with Ludovic and BlackKnight in this thread for an example of the latter.
Much as I love debate (I’m a former Policy and LD debater, VP of our much-feared high school team), the folks in GD are too hung up on politics, wartime issues, and Bush in general, for my personal taste. I don’t like spouting partisan rhetoric, nor is it worthwhile to attempt to impart logic upon those who do. I tried starting a couple of abstract, philosophy-based GD threads, but they died without receiving much attention. So, the Pit it is. (Note: I’m not complaining here; the GD crowd can talk about whatever they want. It’s not my preferred style of debate, but it’s not my forum, either.)
So what does any of this have to do with the OP? Why, absolutely nothing. Having never been Pitted, I can’t offer any helpful information on that issue. But this is MPSIMS, not GQ, so we can feel free to chime in with unrelated commentary anytime we like…right?
Now you have me paranoid, wolf_meister. I rarely ever look in the pit. In fact, I spend too much time in Cafe Society and only recently started venturing out of there when I realized I was paying for all the forums.
But what if someone pitted me for my stubborn and controversial American Idol opinions and I missed it?! wrings handsshrugs Oh well, it’s not the end of the world. wanders off to find the chickadee thread and give it a french fry
I’m paranoid too. I don’t believe I have ever said anything that would cause another to pit me, but now I must find out. It might be a good place to release my well-polished vitriol.
Don’t be too sure. I was pitted by someone who frightened me by, finding my phone # & address, then calling to berate me about something. He pitted me because I hung up on him!
I got flamed by Lynn today for a parody thread in the Pit, which didn’t have a link to the parodied threads.
The warning seemed to imply “do this one more time, and you’re banned.” Looking at Lynn’s other in-thread warnings, it seems as if she was far harsher with me than wth others who posted far more offensive messages. There’s other recently started joke threads in the Pit that haven’t been locked, OPs gone unwarned.
This was my first warning in a looooooong time, so I’m at a loss as to why it was so severe, especially compared to racist threads or other rule-breaking posts.
Yeah, I think I’m being trashed somehwere online, and somehow I’ve managed to miss the threads.
Risking bannination myself, Lynn definitely has a bug up her browneye about joke threads in the Pit. I got warned about a month ago, and apparently she was “bending over backwards” not banning me, whatever the heck that was all about.
I took it to mean she was having a bad day, and chose to pick my battles. But she was definitely snide and more than a little superior about her choice of language about it.
Suffice it to say that some mods are more lenient than others on the rules they enforce.
Nah, I wouldn’t pit you for that (the font doesn’t bother me at all). The color, though is difficult for me to ficus clearly on. If you could use a darker color of blue, it might help, but I suppose I’ll be okay if I just squint a bit more for you, eh?
Why do you think I linked my earlier faux-pitting of wolf_meister to “About this Message Board”? I don’t get why it’s such a reviled crime either, but I ain’t gonna give the mods a reason to cast their eyes in my direction.
You know, the thought just occured to me just before I opened this thread that sure, people may mention you inside a thread you post to, but you haven’t arrived till someone mentions you in another thread! And here I am
But seriously, I havent been able to get back to that thread, not having had time to come up with a proper response, so don’t think I’ve gone away mad.
