The Beatles Break Up

I asked this in an earlier thread, but it got lost in the shuffle.

First of all, very nicely done. However, I do have a couple of questions.

I was a rather big fan back in the day. Of course, my day as a Beatles fanatic ended about 15 years ago, and I freely admit I have not kept up with the new scholarship. Haven’t even seen all of “Anthology” yet. Anyway…

I’d never heard that Mystery Tour was mostly Paul’s idea, or that the other Beatles mocked him for it. MMT was my favorite Beatles movie, and I avidly read anything I could find about it (which was admittedly not much). Can you cite your source for this? I’m not doubting you; I just would like to know the source.

Second, I’d never heard that “Cold Turkey” was ever slated for Abbey Road (my fave Beatles album). In fact, according to The Recording Sessions, it wasn’t recorded until late September, months after the Abbey Road sessions were completed, and indeed well after the ablum itself was in the stores. There is no record of a rehearsal or demo of “Cold Turkey” during the AR sessions (at least, none I could find). Again, you may be right, but I’d like to know where you heard this.

Thanks again,

– Beruang
