Random thoughts – I believe IATW was composed while Lennon was trippin’. Not just drug-referenced, or drug-influenced.

Sure it isn’t just the year Lennon said it? I read the book in November and remember that it cited years for statements that weren’t made specifically for the book (e.g., all of John’s comments, since he had been dead for twenty years).
