To name any Beatles song as my favourite is almost impossible, but if I had to, I’d go for one that I’ve never seen anyone mention - except to dismiss it: George Harrison’s It’s All Too Much from Yellow Submarine. The ultimate psychedelic song - particularly the extended eight minute version. So joyous, so involving, so wonderful.
Here’s a perfect example of not knowing the meaning of the word “underrated.”
Other, I am the Walrus, incredible.
Uh, no, it isn’t. Why don’t you knock off the threadshitting?
I’ve always been partial to “No Reply” for its great, smooth harmonies.
Undoubtedly, In My Life, which happened to be Lennon’s favourite… Lennon song.
And I’ll go along with Here, There and Everywhere, which I believe is one of McCartney’s best songs.
And Across the Universe, for its brilliant combination of lyrics and music.
Pardon me? I do, in fact, know the meaning “underrated”. Which the song is, by practically everyone I’ve ever talked to about the Beatles in general, and that song in particular.
Nice attempt at clever snark, though!
I’m not sure what one consideres “underrated” but here are mine that don’t seem to be included in the Great Beatles Songs conversations:
-
“For You Blue” from Let it Be – big fan of George Harrison’s voice and he looks just so cool singing it on the Let it Be documentary. (“Something” wouldn’t be considered underrated, would it? Really love that one.)
-
Got to Get You Into My Life – great horns, great rhythm, great energy!
I voted for “I’ve Got a Feeling.”

My pick is “I Feel Fine”, because it’s my favourite Beatles song but it never makes any top ten lists.
Yeah! I think it gets overshadowed by some similar-sounding Beatles tunes from the same era, but I think it’s as good or better than any of them. Maybe it just doesn’t have the catchy title that others have.

Your list doesn’t have my favorite Beatles song that hardly anyone else likes: Within You Without You. I don’t care what anybody says, the song is beautiful and the rhythms and instrumentals are brilliant.
Um, om, …and shit.
I was actually trying to remember the title to that one so didn’t mention it, but I’m in agreement.

Anyway, the most underrated Beatles cut has to be a Harrisong.
I’ll go with “I Want to Tell You.”
My other nominee has already been mentioned: “Tomorrow Never Knows.”

I voted for Cry Baby Cry, Run for your Life, and Dear Prudence. I’ll add Within You-Without You, Tax Man, Fool on the Hill and Julia (the “her hair of floating sky is shimmering, glimmering” always gets me for some reason).
We voted identically! I would agree with those who mentioned “Long Long Long”. It’s not a song I listen to often, but it deserves to be.
I’m partial to If I Fell and Here, There, And Everywhere. But I have to agree with a lot of what the earlier poster said, who wrote so passionately about Oh! Darling. That is one hell of an underrated song! I think I still prefer John, overall, as a vocalist, but Paul’s vocal here is magnificent (and I don’t think John could have done as well on it). Great thread, by the way.
Dear Prudence? Have to say I don’t get the love for that one. Too static and droney for me.
as a sitarist, I’m partial to George’s raga-influenced numbers:
Within You/Without You
The Inner Light
Love You Too
and of course “Tomorrow Never Knows” is one of the best psychedelic songs there is. Shout out to “What’s The New Mary Jane” as well… spacier then anything else they ever did!
No love for I’m Looking Through You?

No love for I’m Looking Through You?
Yeah, good one, that.
mmm
“I’ve Got a Feeling” really resonates with me. To me it’s a multi-faceted song that represents the ultimate evolution of the Beatles. It has the harmonies of the old Beatles songs, a great guitar sound, a bit of an edge with the “wet dream” lyric, and an overall somewhat melonchaly sound.
Dear Prudence isn’t really underrated I don’t think…
I’m apparently one of the only people who likes Old Brown Shoe. And I love Old Brown Shoe.

Since over 1/3 of the respondents picked it, I would conclude that it is now overrated.
