The Best $19.95 I Have Ever Spent [word processor] (Not spam)

Would you like to find the perfect word processor. For a word schlepper like me that means fast, featured and cheap.

Try the freeware [product name deleted by staff - see explanation below]

I used Jarte for 2 yrs and it met all my WP needs with one exception, that time I lost a page of text when [deleted] totally crashed and I finally learned the dictum, save frequently. OTOH, I had to rewrite that perfect page and it turned out to be much more to the point. I give [deleted] 5 stars in that regard alone.

The $19.95 upgrade to [deleted] can be installed over the freeware retaining your settings.

While you are on your personal download page (open to you for 48 hrs), pick up a copy of [deleted]

At your leisure, install [deleted] on as many thumb drives as you like, each with it’s own “personality” (text settings, etc).

Comments?

What does it do that either OpenOffice or Google Documents doesn’t?

GD I have not explored.

OO, IIRC, was kind of clunky. YMMV.

Mods, Please add “(great word processor)” to title.

Ah, a user who’s been here a year and turns into a spammer. Not all that common.

Must have been a life-changing word processing experience.

Try it, you’ll like it. If not, tell me why.

Spam as a Google search page?

You give it 5 stars for crashing and losing your work?

5S for demanding (once in 2 yrs) serious editing of my seriousness and reminding me of my own fallibility. This is serious AI, dude.

Of course, the WP trimmings are just trimmings.

Well, you can’t put a price on serious editing of your seriousness.

And?

For $15/yr, I get a Visa imprint on my debit card. Priceless.

Maybe he helped to create the WP. That was my first thought. Of course, the “not spam” thing makes me think it’s not spam.
Best wishes,
hh

I neglected to mention that I (perhaps too enthusiastically) posted the OP because I had just upgraded after 2 yrs of using the freeware, mainly for the real-time spell checking.

Recommending a product you use and like is not the same as spamming. If the OP has a financial relationship with Jarte, of course, that’s a different matter.

I don’t other than my $19.95.

So you can see the extent of what is offered, here’s the manual in handy html format.

MS Office 2010 is totally free - using cloud technology, which does have a slight disadvantage in that you have to be online, and it does take a bit to download.

Still - that is the real, official MS Office, FREE (for home, personal use), and the latest version.

(Of course, one of the reasons it is free is because of all the variations that sprung up all over the place that are free or very inexpensive. Not that Bill Gates suddenly decided to give us that promised free gift for forwarding emails over the years…)

Oh, you may say, wtf, $20 for an as-you-go spell checker?

cheap as i am (poor me), while i was fine with free Jarte otherwise, i don’t spell as well as i used to and i typo more. If i managed to press f7 (before saving, selecting and copying for you guys, among others), i was enjoying a not-so-senior moment.

So, cheap as i am, i decided to try Abi, open source with a real-time but useless spell checker. Try adding a word to your dictionary.

Jarte, otoh, has a robust and responsive dictionary/spell check.

Read the Introduction cited above. Jarte is MSWordPad on wheels with bells and whistles.

Try this in your favorite WP, if you can, then try it in Jarte Plus. Load a doc.

Edit>Change Case>
Lower Case, check.
Upper case, check
Sentence Case, check.

What are you looking at? In Jarte Plus, you’re looking at about 3 capitalization errors per 100 words, like my opening paragraphs above.

Ctrl Z three times and spare yourself the editing.

I’m thinking of my prospective rewrite of several dozen songs/poems, all caps now for easy reading on stage but which need reformatting into poems/lyrics for serious publication.

$19.95? WTF.

I edited the product name out of the OP (and will eventually do so in subsequent posts) since it smacked of commercial promotion, i.e., spam, which is against our rules. We do this after some discussion among staff. No warning is issued since some may be uncertain what constitutes spam. We hope the following will clarify matters:

  1. Spam is the posting of a message with the primary purpose of promoting a product, service, cause, etc.

  2. The antispam rule is not intended to prohibit all discussion of commercial products. If Poster A asks for word processor recommendations and Poster B suggests Product X, that’s not spam. Poster B’s primary goal is to respond to Poster B’s question, not promote Product X.

  3. If Poster B starts a thread extolling Product X, that on its face is spam. Poster B’s primary goal in starting the thread is to promote a commercial product. The fact that Poster B posts on other subjects and doesn’t stand to benefit personally from sales of Product X is immaterial - the antispam rule applies to all posters.

  4. We realize the antispam rule involves some gray areas, particularly where creative works are concerned. For example, if you just read a great book or saw a good movie, we’re not likely to object to your saying so. Likewise, we don’t care if you tout a category of product, as opposed to some specific item. As a general guideline, the more a post sounds like an advertisement, the more likely we are to have problems with it.

The above is simply meant to be a clarification of current practice, not a new departure. Please ask staff if you’re uncertain whether a proposed post constitutes spam. If you have general questions about the above, please post them in About This Message Board. Thanks for your cooperation.
