The best dog in the entire world has died

Best wishes, RickJay.

We recently lost an old spaniel to cancer, but she’s still with us in many ways.

I also like the term “spoodle”.

RickJay,

My sincerest condolences to you. Your post really hits home. I went through the same thing just 4 days ago, losing my cat to cancer. For 17 years he was my best buddy, slept on my pillow next to me, and followed me everywhere, so much so that I nicknamed him my “puppy dog kitty”, because he followed me like a puppy. I know how much it hurts. And I can very much relate to the world not seeming like as nice of a place. It is good that he will not be suffering from that horrible disease any longer though. Try to take some comfort in that. Take care.

My dog died at the end of last year, aged 15. I’ve never really got over it, and it’s hard to imagine a pet to be so much part of a family. My condolences.

RickJay,

I’m so sorry about the loss of your dear friend. I was alerted to your post by another Doper who is currently mourning the death of his companion kitty. Here’s a copy of The Rainbow Bridge. Please be well.

"Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together…"

Me and my beagle send slurps and hugs your way RickJay. There is nothing more honorable than to be a good friend to a human. Sounds like Deej was exactly that.
